I watched them as they stepped from one world to the other. Even though I knew it was coming I couldn’t help hoping that maybe something would change. Having them on our world was going to change it forever in ways that the other races could never imagine and I’d Seen it all. That was what I did, unfortunately. Some days it was easier than others, but I always Saw things I didn’t want to See, because I Saw what I needed to See. Like the arrival of the fae. Due to their selfishness they’d already destroyed two worlds and Kalini would be the third in some timelines, while in others they’d manage to save it. Unfortunately I didn’t know which one I was a part of, as I Saw so many of them, and that made things more difficult for me when it came to planning for the future.

The journey was much easier than Dietrich expected it to be, but he knew, like everyone else, that it would be the easiest part of it all. Leaving their world behind was not a decision they’d wanted to make. Unfortunately, in the end, they’d had no other choice because there was no chance of survival there. He looked around at the fae who had chosen to travel with them. They were fae from numerous groups who would end up splitting again soon enough, because they would never be able to work together. Once again he found himself wondering why each of them had made the choice that they had, because he knew how hard it had been for his father and his father was in a position to know much more than anyone else. Unfortunately being a fae monarch hadn’t saved the others… he’d been to more than one state funeral before the decision was made, so when it finally was all he felt was relief.

Everyone had been warned. That was the good thing about there being a Seer within the {race}. Unfortunately they had been told, more than once, there was no way of stopping the arrival of the fae. It was going to change their world, but that was something they were just going to have to find some way of dealing with, no matter how hard that turned out to be. Of course it wouldn’t be long before the fae started putting doors all over the place, because that’s what they did. Some would take them to world that they knew, where they traded, while others would take them to world entirely new to them, due to the position of Kalinia. On those worlds they might be able to start trading or they might do the same thing they did with Kalinia: create the door, check out the world, and then leave it.

Finally the day had come. Pandora had been waiting for over a century, although it had felt much longer than that, but all of the souls had been collected. Their plan was an unusual one, because it involved willing volunteers. Normally they would just gather the souls and wipe their memories without them having any knowledge of what had happened. It had a high failure rate. More souls remembered who they had been before that way than they did when they had chosen to be involved, so this time they’d waited patiently for the five hundred they needed, instead of giving up halfway through the way they normally did. As she walked through the room they’d designated as soul storage she smiled. Every single one of them had volunteered to be a part of their experiment, knowing what that meant. They’d agreed to having their memories wiped, which would be replaced by memories of who they had become, before being placed on a world where they would have to learn to survive alone.

It was midday and all of Alena’s shifters we safely on Earth. She turned to smile at the fae princess, their eyes meeting for a moment, making it possible for her to see all the worry within them. “Both the cats and the dogs have safely travelled to Earth, Willow. Alder looks knackered, but he’s still going, so I applaud your decision to choose him as the one in control of that side of the door.”

As the last of the shifters stepped through the door Tybalt breathed a sigh of relief. He hadn’t been certain that six hours would be enough time, but it had and he turned to smile at Alena. “Your turn,” he said, reaching out to squeeze her shoulder. “Alder’s on the other side. He went through as soon as Willow opened the door to begin setting up the tents that we’ll all be living in to begin with, until they have a chat with the Prime Minister and let him know what’s happening, when we’ll hopefully be able to start working something more permanent out.”
