One of them had to stay at the House in case of emergencies and it was Alice’s turn. She didn’t mind, as it gave her a chance to start sorting out the decorations, but that was until she saw the tree. At first all she could do was stare at it, unable to believe that they’d really chosen to purchase what appeared to be a 10 foot tall Christmas Tree. Unfortunately it would fit where they’d planned to put it, because the reception had lovely high ceilings, so there was really no reason to tell them to return it and get something less ostentatious. They had, thankfully, bought a tree with roots, as John had asked, which would be planted somewhere after all the festivities were done. It made the amount of money they must have paid for it a long term investment rather than a waste.

Sitting in the coffee shop, they sipped their hot drinks, even though they couldn’t taste them, and readied themselves to tell the other the name they’d chosen. At least that was what the vampire who’d chosen the name Midna was doing. She had no idea if her sister was procrastinating because she hadn’t yet picked a name or if she was just drawing out the tension. They smiled at each other and that was when Midna knew. She tapped her fingers on the table impatiently, half wishing she’d ordered something to eat. For the first time in months she felt hungry for human food.

Lewis had asked Dawn to meet one vampire from the donor house. As he’d helped her once again, giving her a flat to live in until she decided what she was going to do next, she felt she couldn’t say no to the request. Since sunset she’d been pacing around her living room, wondering who would be knocking on her door. Every time she heard the slightest noise she straightened the cushions again, making certain that the room was as tidy as it could be, only to find that the noise had been nothing important. Wrapping her arms around herself she tried not to let her fear get the better of her. It was hard to believe that the donor house would be inhabited by vampires like the ones she’d left behind.

Nick stood beside Sarah as she took the time to stare at the building that was going to become her home. Even though she knew Elise was right, the house was where she’d be safest, she wished there had been another option. Out of the corner of her eye she could see the vampire who’d offered to accompany her during the journey, to keep her safe from the insane vampire who’d decided she was going to be his companion, and, although she was grateful for his help, she couldn’t stop herself from feeling uncomfortable around him. Both Elise and Nick had told her there were different types of vampires, but Sarah had only met Nick a couple of times before and she couldn’t help thinking that maybe Elise had been brainwashed at the house.

Sullivan had no other options. As the train pulled into the station he pulled his coat tighter around him, trying not to let his emotions get the better of him, and prepared himself for what was to come as best he could. Until… her, he couldn’t even think the name, he’d been happy being a vampire, and and believed himself emotionless, but then she’d come along. Stepping down onto the platform he pushed his memories as far back as they would go. Thinking about it all hurt too much. Running a tongue over his dry lips he did his best to avoid looking at any human, so his hunger wouldn’t get the better of him, during the long journey to the donor house. If he hadn’t been close to the point where he would have no control it probably would have been nowhere near as long, but then he also wouldn’t have been there.

Alice looked at John and ran a hand though her hair, showing that she was nervous. “We talked after you left last night and it was a joint decision, which is unusual.” She smiled. “We all think you’ve been a wonderful addition to the house, so we’d like to offer you the chance to move in, because we know that you don’t currently have a permanent place of residence.”
