The last thing Bree ever expected to receive was a message from Trey asking her to visit him at the Residence. It had been years since they had last seen each other, before he had started training to become a priest. Now he was the High Priest of Herne while she was well on her way to becoming the best translator the Dorma had, which wasn’t all that difficult as there were very few Dorma translators. Most of her people preferred working outdoors but she loved working with books so it had been natural for her to fall into translating, even though it meant she had to spend almost all of her time inside.

This story was written when North Square was a very different place – instead of being inhabited by a group of people, including Genevieve and her family, it was only inhabited by the last High Priestess of Hecate Genevieve, who was nearing the last days of her life. Aisling did her best to make North Square habitable alone, because she didn’t feel comfortable opening up to anyone but her family.

This story was also written when there were no inhabitants previously in North Square.

Kneeling beside a very battered Sam, Alice did her best to keep the tears from falling. Being a hunter could be dangerous, but most never came across a vampire who actually wanted to hurt them. Most vampires saw the human hunters as a joke, because even a group of humans would have trouble hurting a vampire who was feeding regularly, although there were those who used the hunters as a way out of a life they’d never wanted. She looked over at the other hunters, all of whom were dead, and felt a wave of pity wash over her, as they were all hunters who had followed Sam when he said he was going to change his way of thinking. It was thanks to them that so many vampire in need of help had found the donor house.

Memories of the night before battered Sam from the moment he woke up. The face of the vampire who had left him for dead; his deceased friends and teammates; Alice with tears in her eyes; and the voice, at times his father’s, at others his mother’s, that kept telling him he was making a huge mistake by becoming a blood sucker. It wouldn’t matter to either of them that he hadn’t been ready to die. He knew that he’d never see then again because of the choice he’d made and a small part of him regretted hurting them. Until the night he’d met Alice his beliefs had been the same as his parents. All vampires were evil. Getting to know Alice had taught him how wrong he was.

Running was Ziva’s only option. If her brother caught her she knew that she would never have a chance to help her humans and as she sprinted away from the vampire who wanted to kill her she kept their faces at the forefront of her mind. There had been a time, before she’d visited her first auction, that she’d dreamed of ending it all, but she didn’t have the courage. Now she had people she cared about, who cared for her in return, things were very different, so she kept running even though her lungs were burning. When she got to the train station she’d be safe, at least for a while.

Alice looked into the room, hating how empty it was, before closing and locking the door. There was always the possibility that some day it would happen, but she’d hoped that it wouldn’t. After five years it didn’t seem like it ever would. The rules appeared to be working well, all the donors and vampires were happy, so the news that someone had been hurt was a total shock. She shook her head. It was something the detractors had been waiting for. A death at the donor house. One death was more than enough to close the place permanently, which was a terrifying thought.

Morgan sat on the sofa that was in the corner of the reception, playing with the white ribbon that was tied around her wrist. Every day she spent at least a few minutes watching the comings and goings of the people at the donor house. Normally nothing much happened. Vampires would enter the house, scribble their name into the book, and then go on to do whatever it was they were going to do. Some were there to feed while others just wanted to enjoy being a part of the community. Donors would scribble their name into the book, leave the house, and go to spend time with old friends or shop. It was easy to tell the donors who had been in the house the longest, like Dominic, because they didn’t leave the house very often. Over time it became a comfort blanket and Morgan had found that she didn’t want to leave as much as she had at the beginning.

Lucas walked into the room. He was an easy person to spot. One corner of the lounge always filled with girly sighs and Kara could feel his power. She didn’t have to look up to know that he was flanked by Simon and Andrew. They were his best friends so they were always together. When she looked up he was heading in her direction, alone. Simon went to sit with another of their friends, Gary, while Andrew headed straight for Eric. Eric wasn’t interested in Andrew but that didn’t mean that Andrew was going to give up. When he set his heart on someone he usually got what he wanted. Kara kept her focus on Lucas.

Sauin was the first magic user to bloom, almost five centuries before Calix had. Sauin was the son of the king, the crown prince because his older brother had died young, and ever since that day the number of magic users had slowly grown. Before Calix’s life had changed it had been hard for him to believe there had been no magic users in the kingdom before that day, and it wasn’t known until a century after that at least one child of the king would have powers. As he walked through the palace he thought about what was to come, because it was likely that there would be a time when there were no magic users in the kingdom once again.

We’re having a heatwave in the UK. I don’t work well in the heat and it’s been making me feel very drained. Thankfully I’m sleeping okay, so I am at least building up the energy I need every night, but not enough to be able to combat the almost permanent sleepiness I’m dealing with. Unfortunately the lack of energy means my writing is suffering and there’s not a lot I can do about the heat. I’ve always been affected by changes in temperature, but I much prefer being cold to being hot. At least if you’re cold you can put on more layers – when you aren’t wearing anything while laying in a breeze and you’re still hot you know you’re fighting a losing battle.

I’ve read a few books recently that have got me very interested in Eastern religions and deities. If you have any suggestions for Eastern deities I could write about I’d appreciate the input. Right now I’m reading a book on Tao, a book on shamanism, and testing out the I-Ching. It’s good to be going back to my paganism studies, because I’ve been what I define as a studying pagan ever since I became a teenager, but I’ve never been in a position where I could be a practicing pagan, the way I always wanted to be. Now I’m somewhere I think I can make it work it’s something I really want to do. Of course right now, with James still home all the time, planning anything doesn’t really work, so I’m hoping things will be sorted out soon. (Although I’m not sure it will, because the antibiotics don’t seem to be working as well as we hoped they would.)

One of my plans is to work on making several of my worlds shared worlds, starting probably with the Donor House, because I’d love to have some more fiction from different parts of the world. I feel most comfortable, when I’m writing stories on Earth, setting them in places I know, so having other people involved would be wonderful, so they can write about the places they know. That will be done once I have my introductory ebooks done.

I’m also looking for some help with races for the worlds of the Web, so if you’d like to be involved with that let me know. Normally you’d earn credits for help with worldbuilding, but if you aren’t interested in collecting credits we can work something else out.
