In December I posted twenty-five parts of the advent story as the month's free story: Trey (LJ link); Aisling (LJ link); Genevieve (LJ link); Orla (LJ link); and Conall (LJ link). This story will become available to purchase once I have edited it for typos. If you would like a copy personalised then let me know - personalisation costs nothing extra. You will also be able to purchase all five stories in handwritten form or simply the one you like best.

There was one prompt call, which lasted five days, and I received twelve prompts from four people. Four stories have been posted: Estelle and Oria (LJ link), that I think is probably a part of the World Walkers collection; Martina (LJ link), which is a part of the World Walkers collection; Tamara meets an Ice Dragon (LJ link), for the Fae School collection; and Richard and Samael at Christmas (LJ link), for the Afterlife collection. I also posted the final continuation from the October prompts call: Richard - An Old Soldier dies (LJ link).

The two winners of the draw to name a character in a random world were: [livejournal.com profile] aldersprig (October prompts call) and [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith (December prompts call).

No random stories were posted.

Again, no pieces of bonus material were posted. I am still working on the two pieces for[livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith.

No donations were received.

The winner of December's signal boosting story is: [personal profile] meeks.

The winner of December's surprise draw is: [livejournal.com profile] skjam. This month the prize is a prompted story of 5000 words.

During December I failed to reach most of my goals. It was an awful month for me personally and that affected my work.

My plans for January include: posting January's free story; the collection and character spotlights; making better use of access filters, including a newly created donor filter; editing everything I have posted so far; doing admin work on a more regular basis; posting the world rental scheme; and working on more world building material.

My goals for January are: writing at least 75,000 words this month and reaching £50 in donations, which will be going towards birthday presents and an anniversary present for my OH.

This month the spotlight is on the Aurora's world collection.

What do you want to know? Ask me questions about the characters, the places, the history of the collection or anything else you can think of. You can even ask the characters questions.  All answers will be posted under the collection spotlight tag and linked to under your question, because I don't want the post to get too cluttered or for too many spoilers to be posted here.

What stories would you like to see written? Want to see more of Griffin? Interested in the other kingdoms? Then tell me here.

This month the spotlight is on Tamara, from the Fae School collection.

What would you like to know about Tamara? Ask me any questions you can think of and I will endeavour to answer them. All answers will be posted under the tag character spotlight and linked to under the questions because I don't want the post to get too cluttered or have too many spoilers posted here.

Tell me what stories you'd like to see. Would you like to see her interact more with Quentin? Her meeting with Adrian? What her first class is like?

This story was written for [personal profile] meeks.

Aurora stared into the flames, wondering how other people felt on their eighteenth birthday. It was a day that would define the rest of their lives but no one ever talked about it. She knew why. Talking about it would make the possibility of it happening more real. Being a user of magic could be a death sentence and that was enough to terrify everyone. Parents dreaded the thought of losing their child while her generation was worried that they would never fulfil their potential. They all had plans for their future, which was something she'd never been able to do. After spending several days poring over the family trees of everyone in town she knew that she was the only person who had two magic users for parents. Her fate was inevitable.

2011

I started crowdfunding in July, after many set-backs. If it wasn't for my netbook harddrive failing I would have started before that. To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect. Crowdfunding wasn't something I knew much about, so the last six months have involved a lot of experimentation with different ideas, and it's been great fun. I haven't made a lot of money, but then I always knew that it would take time for people to get to know my writing, and me. My hope is that 2012 will be a year when I begin to earn.

Now that I've been doing this for six months I have a better idea of what I want to do and where I want to go with this. Posting my writing has been better than I ever thought it would be and people actually seem to like what I write. I don't think I ever expected that. Massive thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith, who has been there since the beginning. I never thought that I would have someone like her involved in this and it's been wonderful. She's inspired me to write more, because she wants to read more; she's posted about me repeatedly in the hope that others will begin to read my work; and I hope that she continues that throughout 2012. I also have to thank [personal profile] forgottenspirits. She has been a friend, an editor, and also inspires me to write more. Some of her favourite collections are not the same as [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's, which is something that I love, because it means I have a reason to keep working on everything.

Writing has always been important to me and I want to be able to keep doing this. I want more people to get involved with what I'm doing, because that's why I chose to crowdfund rather than take any other route. Everything I have set up this year has been an attempt to get people involved in what I write, to make them love the characters I write about, and fall into my worlds in the same way that I do. The more readers I have, and the more they get involved, the more I want to write, want to publish what I have written, and I don't think I ever would have had that if I had gone the traditional route.

There will probably be more experimentation during 2012, because I want to find the things that get people involved. I am hoping that more of my readers will prompt me, because I love writing to prompts. Random numbers also work. 2011 has been good. I hope 2012 will be better.
