“Is that ever going to happen?”
Richard’s eyes met Hades’ for the first time and he could see the amusement in them as Hades shook his head. “I doubt it, but I’m not going to walk away until it does happen. There are too many people who need me right now, including my own children, and if we are right about what’s coming the Earth is going to become a very different place.” He bit his lip, the amusement fading. “What we have on Earth, at this moment in time, is a group who are terrified that the way the world’s population is still increasing, even with the laws they have put in place to stop anyone from having unplanned for children, so they’re going to do something stupid.
“They’re going to give an untested contraceptive injection to everyone over the age of consent.” Hades shook his head. “Even though they know this is a very bad idea nothing anybody is going to say will convince them to stop with their plan, because they truly believe it is their only option. What they don’t know is that if they do this the majority of the human race is going to end up dead, which is why we need you to be as prepared as possible, although I’m not certain there really is any way to prepare for what is coming. It’s something we’ve never seen before and the Council are worried. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen them worried before.”
“How can a contraceptive kill someone?” Richard asked, feeling like an idiot.
“Don’t – it’s a valid question. I didn’t think it was possible either, but we have panicking people who are clutching at what they think is their only option, because the World Government was created to stop the third world war from happening, and now they’re worried that nothing they do is good enough for the governments around the world. By doing something they feel more comfortable with their position, even though what they’re doing is going to end up killing them all.” Hades sighed. “Now the contraceptive they’re planning on using has been created to work on both men and woman. The difficulty with this is that the reproductive system of each gender works differently, so in order to make this contraceptive something that will work on everyone they’ve used a mix of chemicals that will end up causing kidney failure in almost everyone that takes it.”
“Would testing it help?”
“Yes and no. It would stop it from being given to anyone, because they would soon see that the survival rate for someone being given this injection is low, but I don’t think that it’s possible to make a contraceptive that will work on both genders at the same time. That’s coming from someone with no knowledge of these sorts of things, though, so I readily admit I might be wrong – however I am certain that the contraceptive they’re planning on using is not it.” Hades shrugged. “So now we need to be ready for the number of spirits who are going to find themselves here at the same time and those who aren’t going to want to come.”
