Like the dogs we knew something had happened and had to wait until the same news report to find out what it was. We, as a species, have much more freedom than them, so the first thing we did was go to the griffins themselves to find out why they’d chosen our world. I was lucky enough to be one of the cats there, talking to a griffin named Liesel, who was female and pregnant with her first litter. She, with her mate, were the first griffins the bipeds found, but they wouldn’t be the last – it was just that the other griffins couldn’t decide which of them would be going into captivity. That, though, is me rushing the story. Unfortunately that’s something I have a bad habit of doing, but I’ll try not to, because the story I have to tell will make much more sense if I go through it correctly.

We knew that something had happened, but it wasn’t until three months later that we learnt what it was. That was the day the first of the griffins, a mated pair, let themselves be found. After spending much of their time in conversation they’d decided they needed to start working with the races they shared the world with. It was appreciated by us, at least, as it explained to us why we had changed, and gave us a chance to decide what our next step was going to be. Making that sort of decision wasn’t easy, especially as we couldn’t all agree with what we should be doing, so, after several days of conversation we finally came to the conclusion that we needed to test out what the reaction of our humans might be. Five of us volunteered, with the knowledge that if everything did go wrong we’d have somewhere to go, thanks to the street dogs.

If we hadn’t wanted the humans to know what had happened they wouldn’t. It really is as simple as that. Those who truly understand us know that it’s true, but those who don’t… well, they still want to believe that they have some control over the world they live on, and won’t accept that it faded away with the arrival of the griffins. When the griffins came they brought magic with them, or caused it to blossom in this world as it hadn’t before, which changed us as well, although that isn’t something any of us are going to complain about. Not the way the humans do, anyway, because there are so many of them who aren’t at all happy with what’s happened, and don’t seem to be able to come to terms with the fact that everything has already happened. Even if they’d known what was coming there was no chance of them being able to stop it from happening in the first place, as they never would have been able to stop the griffins from travelling here.
