It’s snowing credits. This is the month, if you haven’t already, to start collecting credits. Check out the credits page to find out how to gain credits and how to spend them.

Credits haven’t been as popular as I’d like them to be, but I will be continuing with them. What I’d like is for everyone who wants to collect credits to comment on this post, whether they are already or not, and then I can sort out the spreadsheet I’ve set up. If you don’t know anything about the credits system check this out.

My goal of five people collecting credits has been met today, so I am officially implementing the system permanently. I'm very happy about this because I like the credit system, even though it does mean a little more work for me, and it's helpful as it means I get more stories written for people who are interested in specific collections. Now that I know it's going to be a permanent system I'll add the link to the sidebar, as well as put in some more expensive things.

I'm also in the final stages of some other ideas that will be implemented between now and mid-November. The first is the 'choose-your-own' ebook, which means that people will be able to pick stories that they would most like to have in an ebook (including prompted stories) and then have it sent to them. This is a system that will take time so it's going to be slightly more expensive than normal ebooks. As I currently don't have space for a working printer I'm not able to offer printed hardcopies but I am going to make handwritten copies available. You will be able to buy single stories or a collection of them and this will be expensive due to the time that will go into them, as well as the ink, paper and postage. Some will be available for credits while others will be available for a mix of credits and a donation. Then there is the character and collection spotlight, both of which will be started on the 1st of November. During this time you can ask questions about the character or the collection and get them answered, which may be simple answers or stories. If anyone has a specific character they would like to see in the first spotlight then comment here.

The credits sytem, even though it's only being tested by one person at the moment, does seem to be working.  [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith has given me so more ideas to go along with the ones I will be implementing if this test works. They're wonderful ideas and she's already put an advert up on her website which will get her credits. If you'd also like to help me test out the credits system then look at this post (LJ) where you'll find out how to earn and spend credits.

[livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith has named a new permanent structure. We have the new bookshop Echoes of Alexandria in the Donor House collection. She's also asked for some more stories about her Lakota character John Good Road. Once they've been written and sent to [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith they will be available for sponsorship.

28 credits
name a permanent structure in a collection of your choice, unposted story of at least 1000 words included

Anyone who collects credits is eligible to name three characters every year and one permanent structure. For every 35 credits collected you may name another character and for every 70 credits you may name another permanent structure (for example you may have 40 credits, which increases you can name four characters a year, or you may have 150, which means you can name seven characters and three permanent structures). Being eligible does not mean that you have to name any characters or any permanent structures. Your level of involvement is entirely up to you.

31 credits
name a race in a collection of your choice, no story included

34 credits
name a race in a collection of your choice, unposted story of at least 1000 words included

Races can be named in the Magi collection and the World Walkers collection at this time, but this may change. If you're collecting credits that you're eligible to name one race a year and for every 100 credits you collect you may name another race, up to a limit of three a year. Again, your level of involvement is entirely up to you, so you are under no obligation to name a race just because you're collecting credits.

37 credits
name a race in a collection of your choice and a character in this race, no story included

40 credits
name a race in a collection of your choice and a character in this race, unposted story of at least 1000 words included

43 credits
name a setting in a collection of your choice, no story included

46 credits
name a setting in a collection of your choice, unposted story of at least 1000 words included

Naming a setting is different to naming a permanent structure. A permanent structure is a river, a bookshop or a town, while a setting is an entire kingdom/country. Collections you can name settings in are: Aurora's World; Heliopath's World; Magi; and the World Walkers. If you're collecting credits then you're eligible to name one setting a year and for every 200 credits you collect you may name another setting, up to a limit of three a year. Again, your level of involvement is entirely up to you, so you are under no obligation to name a setting just because you're collecting credits.

49 credits
name a setting in a collection of your choice and a character who lives here, no story included

52 credits
name a setting in a collection of your choice and a character who lives here, unposted story of at least 1000 words included

Surprise story week went well. :) I have some more words to write for most of the stories so I'll do that when I'm not so tired. If I tried now it would probably be gobble-de-gook. It should all be done by the end of the week. Any comment will still get another 500 to 1000 words written, so comment if you'd like to see more of any particular story. Remember you can give me random numbers whenever you want if you enjoyed giving me a number and then seeing the story that I wrote for that number. It's on the prompts post - the link on the right hand sidebar of my journal.

Then there's credits. [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith seemed to think it was a good idea for me to have some form of credit system and I was working on it at the end of last week, but I'm trying to work out if I can afford to have it so that $1 dollar is equal to one credit (or whatever I end up calling it). That makes me 63p (ish) per credit and I'd be happy with that if people thought they would like that sort of system. I'll probably keep up my monetary prices and then have a credit price too, which I think would work out. (To be honest I just thought of that while I was writing this - the reason I write out my thoughts is so I can work things out as I write.) It should make things pretty equal between the two countries and I'll work out how well the system would work with other currencies. At the moment I'm likely to include: typo finding; linking; blogging; commenting; asking a question on the 'Interview the Author page'; prompting; helping with world building; friending my account; and recommending my writing to someone who adds me. There are things that I could add once I have certain pieces of bonus material added and other bits. Would those who don't have the money to spend on my writing like this sort of system? Then once you've got credits you can use them to pay for things and of course you could use a mix of credits and dollars (if I do go for $1 dollar = 1 credit). Any input would be gratefully received.

Oh yes, and the first thing I want to do if I do implement my credits system would be a credit bonus for someone who thinks of a name that would work for them. I don't really want to go with credits because that's what [livejournal.com profile] ellenmillion uses for Torn World and I wouldn't want people to get confused. Stamps is also out because [livejournal.com profile] aldersprig uses that. Also everything will be backdated to the beginning of Surprise Story Week (if that's okay with you [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith - you're the one who's been doing so much of the typo finding).

I wanted to check with [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith and [personal profile] meeks that you'd both received your first stories for your character adoption. If you haven't then let me know.
