Part 1

“How did you meet Tegan if you were on Aerith?” Sini wasn’t entirely surprised that they had managed it, but she would like to know how, when the doors were normally so capricious. “Did the worlds help?”

Riordan smiled. “The worlds have always helped me and the natural Walkers… oh, wait, you’re Quiaran, I should be using Moonjumpers.”

“It’s okay. Lucille, when she was working on her book, had me proofread some of it, and I got used to using Walkers as an alternative to Moonjumpers.”

“You know Lucille?”

Sini nodded. “We met when she helped to solve the case of the counterfeit enchantments. I didn’t think she’d come out of it the same person, and in some ways she hasn’t, but she’s never given up on us, even though I wouldn’t have blamed her if she had. Our people weren’t always kind to her.” She shrugged. “Fortunately one of the things she open says is that you have to take the rough with the smooth, so she’s willing to deal with the people who treat her badly in order to spend time with her friends.”

“Maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to meet her too. I’ve read her books and they’re fabulous. She’s a true Walker, right?”

“She’s connected with Quiar, Kniroch, and Beshaki, although she says it isn’t unusual for the other worlds to call on her if they need her, because she helped Raenarin to connect with her Queen and changed the Web.”
“There are always people like that. A long time ago Tegan was one of them, but her lives are simpler now.” Riordan shook his head. “You asked me about meeting Tegan on Aerith. I’m terrible for going off on tangents, Sini, sorry.”

“I guess that’s a fae thing.”

“You’ve met other fae?”

“The bed and breakfast in Seahorse Port is currently run by a deer who’s reincarnated fae. He still hasn’t told us what his name was, although he says he was Oscar’s younger brother.”

“He’s running a bed and breakfast?” Riordan smiled again, looking amused. “Honestly, thinking about him, that really doesn’t surprise me. Is he planning on living another life there?”

“Quiar is his home, now.”

“Good, I’ll be able to tell Tegan where he is. She’s been looking for him for lifetimes, because she wants to see if the two of them would work as a couple. After what happened between us she regrets not giving their a relationship a chance instead, but we were both so in love and so certain we could make it work, and it ended up not being as simple as we hope it would.” He sighed. “In every life she’s been a Walker. I don’t think she knows how to live without being able to travel the worlds. So far I haven’t seen her during this life, but hopefully it won’t be long. Every so often I feel her coming closer and then she moves away again, as though she isn’t entirely certain she’s ready to see me.”
