Part 1

The first emotion Luna really felt through shock of finding herself somewhere… she looked around her, trying to work out exactly where she was, even though she doubted she was  on Earth. She seemed calm. It was easy to do and she’d had lots of practice, working in customer services. On the inside things were very different. A part of her wanted her to be scared, but she had no reason to be scared. That was something that might change, depending on what happened next, although she had a feeling it wouldn’t. Breathing deeply she pushed away the worry, the fear, and the urge to get her phone out of her bag to see if it still worked, because she needed to work out what she was going to do.

Right at that moment, as Luna stood there with the knowledge she might never see home again, all she felt like doing was curling up in a ball and crying. She just knew it wouldn’t do her any good. Feeling lost and alone she lent against the wall next to her, attempting to focus on something other than the life she’d been forced to leave behind. It was the adventure she’d always wanted, but that didn’t make what had happened any easier to deal with, because she’d never planned on leaving everything behind. There would always be a chance to return home, but if she really was on another world the way she believed she was there may never be a way back.

A sound from somewhere behind where Luna was standing had her turning, unsure what she’d find, and all she could do was hope they didn’t want to kill her. She couldn’t stop herself from breathing a sigh of relief when her eyes met those of another human being. The girl, who didn’t look much older than Luna was, smiled, sympathy filling her eyes as though she knew exactly what Luna was going through. It was likely that she did. Luna knew that other humans had been transported somewhere by the book.

“Hi,” Luna said, hearing the mix of emotions she was feeling in it. “Where am I?”

“Taithmarin,” the girl replied. “It’s a different world to the one you left behind.” She took a couple of steps closer to Luna. “I’m Arian and I’ll be your guide during your first two weeks here.”

“I’m Luna.” Luna bit her lip, wondering if she was ready for the answer to the question she really needed to answer. “Can I ever return home?”

Arian shook her head, looking sad. “No, there’s no way back that we know of. You have no choice but to start again here.”

Nodding, Luna did the one thing she had been trying not to do and put her hand into her bag, searching for her phone. When she pulled it out the screen was lit, but there was no signal. “I tried that too,”Arian murmured. “The phone will work for as long as you have battery, but there’s no way to recharge it or use it to call home. Not that it would be of any use if you could.”
