The Fae World: Talia: Talking to Lenny

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on between them,” Lenny said, “but I’m worried.”
“When did it start?” Talia asked, looking at the shifter.
“About three weeks ago, I think. That’s when I started smelling him on her clothes, but it’s possible that other scents were covering his and I didn’t notice until they became close enough for his scent to become more prominent. He started visiting the house a week ago.”
“You’re certain he’s fae.”
Lenny nodded. “I always know the scent of fae. I did think about showing myself to him, until I realised that there is something wrong about their relationship, and now…” He sighed. “The thing I’ve noticed is that there are humans with fae blood who don’t scent as fae. Until they realise what they are and begin using their magic there’s no way of telling if a human does have fae blood. It’s possible that he’s using her as some sort of battery in order to gain more power.”
“I’ve come across this before.” It was part of the reason Talia was heading home, because Willow needed to know, and it seemed to be happening more often. “A majority of humans don’t have enough fae blood to find the school, thanks to the elders, but they have enough to be used as batteries. It’s wrong, and I think we need to put a stop to it, but until I talk to our Queen the only thing I can do is put a stop to it when I come across it.”
“Other shifters are picking up on it.” Lenny glanced out of the window and then let his eyes met Talia’s. “They haven’t been happy with the way the fae have dealt with living on Earth for a long time, so finding out that there are fae doing this… It’s wrong, Talia. Anyone with fae blood should be taught how to use their magic.”
“I agree. So does the Queen. The problem is the majority of the elders and right now there’s not a lot we can do about them.” Talia ran a hand through her hair. “The Queen has been sending out people she trusts to begin teaching those who can’t find the school, but nothing is easy. I promise you she is doing everything she can.”
“I don’t doubt what you’re saying. We believe in Willow because she was the one to give us the option to follow her, instead of burying her head in the sand like the majority of the fae, and our choice was to come here with her. If there’s anything we can do to help…”
“I’ll pass the message on when I next see her.”
“Thank you.” Lenny smiled at her. “You’re Esra’s daughter, aren’t you?”
“How did you work that out?”
“We were friends and you smell a little like her. I haven’t seen her for years now, but I never forget a scent.”
“I’ve noticed that before.” Talia found herself looking at the shifter a little differently. “Would you like me to pass on a message to my mother?”
