NaNo isn’t going well this year. I am going to get the story finished, and I want to get it done for NaNo, but I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I already have ideas for later stories connected to the Case of the Counterfeit Enchantments, so I’m looking forwards to writing them.

I’ve been working out the stories I’m going to write for my newly created Bingo Cards, which has been fun. I have new settings to explore, new characters to get to know, and bonus material that’s going to be informative. One of the things I do plan on starting is a herbal notebook for the Magi. It’s also possible I might begin a crystal list for the World Walkers collection. Both will be based on crystals and plants you see on Earth, although there’s going to be some big differences.

In the last few days I’ve been wondering whether I should post everything I have written so far and begin the Donor Filter and Sponsorable Stories list again at the beginning of 2013. I want to, more because I want people to read the stories than anything and no one really seems to be that interested in the Donor Filter, but at the same time I don’t know if it’s a good idea. Input?

Alas! What are you stuck on? Or is it schedule upheaval again?

Yay! This makes me happy.

I'm glad this is working out.

Cool! I'd enjoy these as bonus materials. You may have seen some of the articles I've done for Torn World flora and fauna.

From what I've seen, it's best to have a mix of free and sponsorable material in a crowdfunding project. If everything is released, there is less incentive for people to donate. I'd be a more regular supporter if I had more cash, but when I can spare a little, it's the sponsorable stories list that I check to see what I'd most like to share with people.

So I'd say, release some stuff, but not everything. Release first installments, especially if they introduce a new character, setting, etc. That may encourage people to support those more. Release "The Case of the Counterfeit Enchantments," because I suspect it will be an engrossing story to introduce a lot about Quiar. But keep at least some of its tie-in stories hidden unless someone sponsors them. Release at least some of the stuff from public prompt sessions or other activities, but keep back things that are privately prompted or commissioned unless they are sponsored.

Since you're getting some new traffic from places like Web Fiction Guide, consider offering some kind of new reader bonus -- maybe put it in your monthly report. "If you're a new reader, leave me a comment mentioning a character, setting, or story of mine that you really like. Then you can pick something from this list to be revealed."

It's schedule upheaval. I much preferred it when James had a permanent schedule, especially as he has a load of overnight shifts next week and the week after. *sigh* I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do yet, but I will learn to work with this.

The reader bonus sounds like a good idea. I'm testing out something new at DeviantArt too, with the whole points donation thing, so maybe that will give me something to work with. I just have so many stories that I really want to see posted and they aren't. :( Having readers is wonderful, but sometimes I wish I had more donors so I can post more stories.

Bummer. That can really make things difficult.

Glad I could help.

That sounds cool.

Maybe try posting a few of the racial description pieces on DeviantArt, and ask people to tell you if they illustrate any? That might attract more fanart. You've got a bunch that you did, and then all the finished ones from Quiar that I did.

*hugs* I know the feeling.

Sooth. On the bright side, donors often emerge from the reader pool. I think I've gotten more people who read for a while and then donated, rather than people whose first appearance was a donation.
