Finding the door had been pure luck. By the time Holly finally came across it she’d almost got used to living on Taithmarin, but that didn’t have any effect on the relief she felt when she realised she was back on Earth. Smiling, she walked down one street she recognised, onto another, and then stopped. A girl with wings wandered along the road as though she was meant to be there, someone with cat ears and tail sauntered along close to her, and then she knew there was only one explanation for what had happened. The door hadn’t taken her back to her Earth.

Biting hard on her lip Holly put her hand into her pocket, hoping that the magic worked both ways. Her clays had turned into pounds, although it seemed like the exchange rate wasn’t as good as it had been going to Taithmarin, but at least she had money she could use. It wouldn’t last long, so she had to work out what her next step was going to be quickly. Unfortunately she doubted there was going to be someone coming along to help her understand the world she’d found herself on and that meant she was going to have to work things out for herself, somehow.

Trying to seem as normal as possible Holly walked down the street, towards where she hoped there was still a bookshop. If there was a bookshop she’d be able to find some history books and find out why there were people with wings and other strange additions. Hopefully. Once she knew why the Earth she’d found herself on was different to the one she’d left behind… she thought for a moment about Taithmarin and the books she’d read on the history of the world. The world had been created by the fae, after they’d been forced to leave their home world behind, so maybe she’d found herself on an Earth that another group of the fae had escaped too. At least that seemed to be the most logical reason for the winged girl, although the boy who seemed to be part cat was something else entirely.

Holly couldn’t stop herself breathing a sigh of relief when she found the bookstore right where she’d expected it to be. It was nice to have some things the same, even if she had found herself on a different Earth. The guy behind the counter looked human and smiled at her when she stepped into the shop. She returned the smile before making her way to the reference section to find the history books. On the shelves were books she’d never seen before, including ‘A Child’s Illustrated Guide to the Fae’ and ‘A Child’s Illustrated Guide to the History of the Fae’. At least she knew her guess had been correct.

In the reference section Holly found the history books she was looking for. The fae had arrived in the year 2005, in what they called one of the places of magic, and since then the UK had changed in ways no one had been expecting. Not even the fae had known everything, because they’d never lived on a world that already had inhabitants, but they had warned the Prime Minister that people would find themselves with abilities that would never have manifested if the fae had stayed on Kalinia.

Enid, for the Fae World: Arkal. She’s the Dragon princess who escaped before all the Dragons were collared and believed everyone she cared about had died.

Frane, for the World Walkers. He’s one of the escapees from Tanis’ story and the only one to find Leolin.

Kalena, Julian, and Quentin, also for the World Walkers. Kalena left behind everything in an attempt to live her life the way she wanted to, but because of who she is she ended up with no choice but to return and deal with someone she didn’t really want to see again.

Maeve, for Thear. She’s one of the true Priestesses, who met Aisling in the Training Temple and knows all about North Square.

Lox, for the Donor House. He’s a vampire who’s been living rough for decades, until he hears about the Donor House and realises he wants something more.

Lorelei and Stela, again for the World Walkers. They’re both time travellers, but Stela’s lived in her new time for several years while Lorelei has just found out she’s travelled hundreds of years back in time.

Marley and Blaine, once again for the World Walkers. They’re two Nox Gadael, one born on Taithmarin and one born on the Gadael’s home world, but both ended up being brought up by the same mother.
