Written for LJ user ysabetwordsmith’s prompt: I’d like to see more of the exceptionally sensible policeman who hauled Grant back to the Donor House drunk. But this time, instead of a vampire causing a problem, he’s picked up a vampire who was the victim of a crime.

Garion walked past the donor house. He was off duty, but that didn’t stop him from keeping an eye on things. Most of the officers he worked with saw the house as a complication no one wanted, because it increased the number of vampires in the local areas, which was said to increase the number of addicts. So far they’d seen no change at all to the amount of addicts, although he knew that the owners of the donor house wanted to create some form of detox for the addicts, if they wanted the help. Speaking out at work would make his position difficult, so he kept his admiration of the vampires of the house to himself.

Once he’d passed the house Garion crossed the road and walked along the esplanade. There were more vampires, more vampire owned businesses, and until he’d met a few of the vampires at the house he had been unsure about the increase. Whenever he heard the word vampire he thought of a parasite that needed blood to survive, without thinking of them as people. Alice was very much a person rather than just a vampire. It was for her he kept an eye out, knowing they needed as much help on the outside of the house as they could get.

The pier was where Garion noticed something unusual. A man was slumped against the railings, looking very much like he’d been attacked. Slowly, knowing there was every possibility it might be a vampire, he walked towards the man, dialling Alice’s number as he did. If it wasn’t a vampire he wouldn’t need her, but it was better to be prepared.

“Sir,” Garion said, keeping his voice low so he wouldn’t startle the man, “can I help you?”

After a moment the man looked at Garion. “I don’t know,” he replied, and then Garion could see the fangs. “I was trying to get to the donor house when I was set upon by two men. They weren’t hunters, because they didn’t have stakes, but it was obvious they didn’t like vampires.”

“If you’d like to press charges I’ll take a full statement when we get to the house. You have two options: I can help you to the donor house, which is less than five minutes up the road, or I can call Alice and get her to send a vampire up to help you.”

“Who are you?” the vampire asked, sounding more curious than suspicious.

“My name’s Garion, and I’m one of the local police officers.”

“Well, Garion, I’m Faron, and I think it would be better if you contacted Alice to get someone to collect me. I’m not desperate for blood, but I’d rather be safe than sorry, especially as you’re with the police.” Faron smiled. “Thank you for stopping. Most people wouldn’t.”

Garion smiled back. “I’m not like most people.” Taking his phone out of his pocket he pressed the dial button and waited for Alice to answer. “Hey, Alice,” he said. “I have a vampire here who’s been attacked and he needs a hand getting to the house.”

I really like Garion. He is practical as well as helpful. I'd love to see more of this.
