NOW CLOSED

From now I am open for prompts and I'll post a closed sign when I decide that I can't write anything else or I've stopped getting prompts. As it's coming up it to Halloween/Samhain I'd love to have prompts for both, prompts on festivals of lights (because I love Diwali) and prompts for Fireworks Night. If you're no good at prompts then you can leave me a random number and I'll write a story based on one of these themes for the character. You may also leave a prompt with a random number (or more) and I will write a story based on that prompt with those random characters in. Leave me a selection of all three if you wish.

For every prompt and random number I receive I will write 500 words, which will be posted. Each additional 500 words will cost £1.50, up to a limit of 6000 words (£18.00), if you want the words posted. Credits can also be used to buy extra words, 3 credits per 1000 words - up to a limit of 6000 words (18 credits), but in this case the words won't be posted and they'll be sent to you as a PDF.

Anyone who posts a link for this prompts session will receive another 500 words, which can be used for a prompt of their choice (this can be their own prompt or a story that they like that has been written during this prompts session). For every five people that post a link I'll write one extra story of at least 1000 words (if I've managed to read £60 then I'll post a poll so my readers can choose from a selection of ideas).

If I get £20 I will post one new piece of bonus material, which will be posted as soon as it is written, chosen by the donor whose donation gets me to this point.
If I get £40 I will write a story of at least 1000 words, which will be posted as soon as it is written, chosen again by the donor whose donation gets me to this point.
If I get £60 I will make all the stories written to prompts into an ebook, which will be emailed to everyone who has donated. (If I get to this point then I'll be purchasing a paid account on Dreamwidth.)
If I get £80 I will write one new piece of bonus material that will only be available in the ebook.
If I get £100 I will write one story of at least 1000 words that will only be available in the ebook.
For every £25 after the £100 I will add another bonus story or new piece of bonus material to the ebook.
If I get £200 I will make a second ebook with at least 10 new stories in, of at least 1000 words, set in a collection of the donors choice, and 2 pieces of bonus material, which will be emailed to all the donors.
If I get £250 I will add at least three new stories which will only be available in the ebook and one piece of bonus material.

Everyone who prompts or leaves a random number will be entered into a draw to name a character in a collection chosen at random.

Everyone who donates will be entered into a draw to name a character in a collection of their choice. For every £3 donated the donor will have their name entered once, up to a limit of ten times for £30, and for every 5 donors there will be another draw, up to a limit of ten draws (50 donors).

The same person will not be eligible to win both the prompter's draw and the donor's draw, but it will be possible for someone to win more than once in the donor's draw. If this happens then the winner won't be able to name two characters but will instead receive a story of at least 1000 words about their named character for each additional win. Anyone who wins more than once in a six month period will also receive a story of at least 1000 words fortheir named character for each additional win and will be eligible to name a new character six months after their first, but can choose not to if they would prefer to receive a story based on their original character.

[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith suggested that I give you this (http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestart.php?id=3884) as an afterlife prompt. I also think it might be fun to see how Richard would react to this (http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestart.php?id=3890).

Does Aurora's world have any holidays at this time of year?

I love your second prompt too. (For some reason my name disappeared from the first.)

Halloween (Donor House) -- A gaggle of small children chaperoned by a teen, all in adorable costumes, arrive at the door of the donor house after getting themselves badly lost. Of course the only person wearing white is one tot dressed as a ghost, and none of them have any idea what the donor house is -- it just looks like a hotel, so the teen wants to use the lobby phone, and the kids are all plastered to the teen refusing to let go. How will the vampires and donors respond?

Samhain (Pagans) -- Anna observes this holiday by mourning for Charlotte and the loss of her memories and former life, in hopes that this will help her let go and move forward. Compare and contrast amnesia with death/reincarnation.

Diwali (Deities World) -- Laxmi invites Callidora to accompany her on a tour of this holiday as people offer Laxmi Puja. As an exercise in working with humans, Callidora is assigned to choose one of the families to receive a blessing of wealth. Whom does she choose and why?

Fireworks Night (Afterlife) -- Richard/Death goes to collect a soul. Unfortunately the soul belongs to an elderly soldier suffering from PTSD, who is hiding under the bed as is his custom on Fireworks Night because the sound and smell of fireworks trigger flashbacks (and in this case, a fatal heart attack). How does Richard coax him to come out from under the bed and travel to the Afterlife?

Prompt call has been linked on the DW Crowdfunding community, my LJ and DW blogs, and my LJ echoes to my Facebook feed.

Halloween: Turns out real monsters look less convincing than CGI ones. (Pick an appropriate character, or possibly make a new one as this one might be short-lived.)

Hi! Ysabetwordsmith said that this idea of mine might work as a prompt for you:
I remember reading years ago that hidden doorways to fairyland sometimes open only on certain days of the year. I'd also think it'd be interesting to say that this particular doorway hasn't opened in a long time because a tree blocked it from our side. A tree now removed for some quite modern reason...
Best of luck!
:)

That's a pretty good treatment.
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back with you on this. It's been a busy week.
Have you written this as part of a larger story?

Basically, it's part of the history of my Fae, which is slowly becoming more and more involved (why did I have to allow Fae doors to take over my mind?). This comes before this part/story: http://kajones-writing.livejournal.com/33441.html; and this one: http://kajones-writing.livejournal.com/33783.html.

Why does LJ do that? It's really annoying when I put in a link and then LJ decides that the semi-colon is a part of it. No, LJ, the reason I typed it in seperately is because it's not a park of the link... bad LJ.

The actual link is: http://kajones-writing.livejournal.com/33441.html. It doesn't do it with full stop so why other punctuation?!!?

I think that for those of us who are in the process of becoming writers, it takes a while for our worlds to evolve and become more intricate.

Quick question, is Fireworks Night the same thing as the UK Bonfire Night (5th November, in remembrance of Guy Fawkes' failed attempt to blow up parliament)? If so something about that and/or how it was used within the symbolism for V for Vendetta (original comic / graphic novel or film). Can I use credits to pay for my prompt or do I need to donate?

Date: 2011-11-01 09:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kajones-writing.livejournal.com
Yes, I used Fireworks Night because it's what I've always called Bonfire Night - we never had a garden that we could have a bonfire in so it was always just fireworks - and because it seemed the easiest name for everyone to understand (as I have more US readers than UK).

I've never seen or read V for Vendetta, so I couldn't write something for it. Is your other prompt for a historical story or would you just like a story set on November the 5th?

500 words are free, as I said in the post, and then if you want more words it's credits for unposted words and donations for posted words.

Let's start with 500 then! I am sorry I keep asking how the credits work. I will get used to it and have read the post a number of times but my MonSter1-eaten brain refuses to remember new stuff.

I'll make sure I keep that in mind when I'm talking to you. To be honest if I hadn't written the post I probably would have forgotten everything too. My short term memory is worse than that of a goldfish sometimes. :)

Do you want a historical story, set at the time of Guy Fawkes' rebellion, or just a story set on November the 5th?

Hmmmm. Is there a similar event/holiday in any of your story 'verses? Whatever seems to gel well for you. If there was a similar event (Insurrection and explosives! Down with the government for we are the 99%! ;-p) then that would be fun to read about but if there is a similar fireworks and bonfire jacket potatoes holiday (with or without "penny for the guy" and burning the guy on the bonfire) then that instead. To be honest I would rather read something that you are comfortable writing - you know your stories/characters/'verses better than I do at this point!

P.S. Do you have a landing page or some-such where I can find links to the first "episode"/story in each setting or for each character so that I can read from the start? I think I came into this pat way through.

Date: 2011-11-01 06:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kajones-writing.livejournal.com
If you check out the welcome page then it has links set up to landing pages for all my collection. I do need to update them, so it might be worth waiting a couple of days, and a lot of the time I don't write in order, which means you might finds things jump around a bit.

You could also use the collection or character tags. Each collection and character (if I've published a story about them) had a tag.

On the 1st of each month I'm having a spotlight on one collection and one character. This month it is the Afterlife collection and Anna from the Pagan collection, so if you have any questions about either of them then ask them at those posts.
