When I started writing for Thear, long before I began crowdfunding, I was writing a very different story, which is something I'm sure I've mentioned before. Originally this was a story about three races who had found themselves in a position where there was a much higher population of men compared to women and they realised that Earth had the opposite problem, so, after some very long and arduous conversations with the governments of the world, the decision was made that the Thearans could take with them one hundred women a year. Most of them came from the UK and America, as the Thearans thought it made more sense for them to take white people rather than black, due to their own colouring - which was blue, green, and red, as well as various mixes of these colours, although this was rarer. Purple and turquoise are the most likely combination colours, as the Uisdro (blue) traded with both the Tein-Igni (red) and Dorma (green), but the Dorma and Tein-Igni were much more likely to work through the Uisdro than they were to work with each other.

One question I still haven't answered is where the three races came from originally. I know they travelled to the island they named Thear, which has become the name for the world as this is the place we have the most contact with the races, and it's also what the old Earth deities chose to call it. At the beginning there was the Cult of Hecate, who appear to have made the journey to Thear because they were religious and the people they lived with weren't. Then the Dorma made the journey and found themselves on an island that appeared to be uninhabited, as the Cult of Hecate had been warned of the arrival of the other races, and what was going to happen in the future, so they had created themselves a city at the Northern most tip of the island, surrounded by mountains that they felt kept them safe from outsiders, and would keep the Thearans safe when the time came that they most needed a sanctuary. It was around forty years later that the Uisdro also made the journey and, like the Dorma, they also thought the island was uninhabited, as they found themselves on the eastern edge of the island. Finally the Tein-Igni made the same journey, about sixty years after the Uisdro, and found themselves at the south of an island that appeared to be uninhabited. Between the time of the Uisdro's arrival and the Tein-Igni's the Dorma and Uisdro have come across each other, started trading, and even found themselves sharing beds, leading to the birth of the first mixed race child, however they still know nothing of the Cult of Hecate. It's two years after the arrival of the Tein-Igni that they meet the Uisdro and then the Dorma.

The people of Thear know nothing of this history, sadly. It was all burnt, during the time of a High Priest of Herne who believed that he was doing what Herne really wanted him to, by beginning to convince the Dorma of their superiority over the other two races. By this point they've found a building they name the Residence, which was the first home of the Cult of Hecate, and have taken it over to give the High Priests and Priestesses somewhere to live, as they are the guides and guardians of all the other Priests and Priestesses. Or they were. This is something else that has changed. After the High Priest of Herne destroyed the books, killed his fellow Highs, and was executed, the races began to wonder if they really should have Highs at all. It had quite obviously gone to the head of the High Priest of Herne. Finally they made the decision, even though some of the Dorma were already drawing away from the other two races, that a High Priest would only be a High for five years and then he would need to pass on the duty to someone else. Unsurprisingly this caused some difficulties, in part due to the problems that were caused by a High seemingly going mad and murdering his fellow Highs as no one wanted to become a High for a little while. It was actually as Uisdro Priestess who changed this, not long after she finished training, because she felt that eight years was long enough without a High. This was at the urging of Persephone, who knew how important the Highs were going to become.

It's strange to think how much of their history I know and how little of it I've written, so at least I know what needs to be remedied with this collection, although my focus will still be on the time when each of the races has found themselves in the position where they believe they are superior to the other two; where there are issues with the fact that they have two deities, so the races are splitting into two factions by gender; that there are those people who are fleeing to North Square, hoping for a better life, especially those who are being coerced by family members into having arranged marriages; and that the deities are having more of an influence on the lives of those who truly hear them, rather than those who just pretend. The Highs are still young, passing the job from friend to friend, even though the hope was that as the Highs aged they would chose a friend who had aged with them, but instead chose someone they knew from training who was younger than them, because they feel that being a High is one of those learning experiences the right person should have.

Along with the main storyline I have been writing three AUs, each one of them different, and none like the original Thear, but instead what it became later on. Especially as I realised that the Thearans could never have created their own spaceships, so they would have had to have relied on Earth's, which may mean that I write about the other ships too, and whether they landed. (Interested in this? Leave a prompt.) There was a link to Kim's Earth, which I may still write, but it won't be canon for Kim's Earth - instead it will be a connected AU.
