Type: fantasy
Heliopath's world is an interesting place, but one that has a magic that is difficult to describe, even for the mages who use it. They've used magic for millennia on this world and there was a time when the only mages were believed to live in the city of Ildieu, where they banished themselves to at the end of a war that almost destroyed everything. For a long time people didn't think that the mages had survived the war, until it became possible for them to leave Ildieu and learn more about themselves, as the magic of the gate they created wiped their memories of everything that had come before, so all they knew was the history of the city, which, sadly, was incomplete as there were times when much of it is missing.
There are things that I know about the magic of this world that they don't know themselves, because I know their history. Often there have been times when there are no black mages, in part due to how badly it can affect someone when they use magic of this level and in part due to what the mages know of magic itself. Magic, when used, will react with the mages body in some way. Green level mages don't have as much of a problem as the higher leveled ones, because it causes a headache, although how painful it is depends on how long the mage has gone using it. Some people will use green level magic for months without thinking about it, before spending several days in bed with a migraine because they don't use it for a day, but this is something that a good leader would make sure didn't happen by making their mages take regular breaks from using magic. The higher the level of magic the mage uses the worse the reaction. However this is something they have learnt to deal with, because the other choice is to not use magic.
Within Ildieu there are houses, where the mages live. In the past they all lived in the same house, which I believe was the Grey Gardens, before the mages started arguing about how they were going to teach others within the city magic. Some thought everyone had the ability, although they didn't know it, and believed that anyone who wanted to should be permitted to learn how to use magic; others believed that only those who could pay to be taught should learn; and the last, those who went to the Black Hollow, believed that only those who were born into the right family should be permitted to learn magic. Now they seem to have forgotten the arguments that split them up originally and now all the leaders of the other houses look up to the leader of the Black Hollow, even though they shouldn't, because Falcon wasn't trained to be in control of the house. His older brothers were, all eight of them, but something happened to them that meant the job fell to Falcon, the leader's least favourite son, before he was also killed. Some people believe it was Falcon who made this happen while Heliopath can't help wondering if it had something to do with the mages outside the city.
Unfortunately for him Heliopath is viewed as an outsider, even though he was born in Ildieu, because no one knows his past. All they know about him is that he's a black mage who took over the Grey Gardens and is now attempting to get all the mages in the city to work together against those on the outside, who view the mages of the city as nothing more that a waste of air. Some of them came from the city, at different times in the past, because they didn't want to deal with the problem of living in Ildieu any longer - that many mages together was never a good idea and during Heliopath's time all they do is fight against each other. Only people within the neutral zone, the center of the city, are free from being attacked, and even then that isn't guaranteed. The others were there already, mages who avoided being forced into Ildieu by going into hiding, as they didn't believe that hiding away in Ildieu was the right way to stop the war.
My plan with this collection is to go backwards in time, to see more of what happened in the past, because it is fascinating to learn more about the city and the people within it, as well as going outside the city. I want to write about the way, about the mages who stayed outside, about the outsiders as they are in Heliopath's time, and what happened in Heliopath's past (I have an idea). There is so much that I want to write about and sometimes it feels like there isn't enough time to write all of the stories that need to be written.
As usual I'm also interested in crossovers and AUs. One thing I like to do is list as many characters as I can, randomise them, give them numbers and then get other people to give me random number prompts. Then I get all sorts of interesting ideas for crossovers and AUs.
