James and I have been talking about him possibly going back to college to do a mechanics course of some form. The plan was, several years ago, for him to join the RAF, but there were problems: he has hayfever so he can’t be a pilot; they weren’t recruiting at the time for the job role he wanted; and then they changed the system in a way that made it into a confusing mess. His second option has always been mechanics/engineering, because he’s a very practical person. Between the two of us we managed to change the gearbox in his old car and he did most of the work. If last year hadn’t turned into the mess it became he probably would have started applying then, because he wants to do something with his life that isn’t just working in a petrol station shop. I want him to be able to do it too.
In order for me to help him out this site needs to start earning me money. I post a lot for free and I love doing it – writing for me has never been about money. However money is something that I need and I want to earn it doing what I love. So, if you want to help me get to a stage where I’m not worrying any more about possibly having to get a ‘real’ job, then there are several ways you can.
Sponsor a story; sponsor a collection; adopt a character; rent a setting; or just send a donation to say thank you. There are site perks and donor perks (and all donor perks can be changed to suit you, so if you don’t want to name a character then we can work an alternative out). I’m working on the ebooks of the collections, so my aim is to have at least one of them ready by the end of the month, although there are going to be collections that will take longer than others to prepare (the Donor House and the World Walkers). The first section of the Case of the Counterfeit Enchantments should be ready by the end of the month too.
Basically the more money I get for the work I do the more I can do for my readers. I’m lucky to have someone like James in my life who gives me the time I need to do this, but if I’m not getting any income this way then I’ll have to think of something else, because the burden of paying for everything can’t always be on James’ shoulders.
