Part 1

Mairin breathed a sigh of relief. Piaras couldn’t help smiling at her, before turning to more important matters. Thankfully he always kept his notebook on him, even when he wasn’t planning on talking with a new race creator, so he pulled that out of his bag, with a pen, and placed in on the table in front of him. Running a hand through his hair he looked down at the plans he’d already made, trying to work out how he was going to be able to fit another race onto one of his two worlds. Some of the other creators had more worlds, but he’d only wanted the two because that was what he felt capable of working with, and yet there were so many things he wanted to do with them.

“Thank you, Piaras.”

“You’re welcome.” Piaras looked at Mairin. “I’m afraid, due to the choices I made before I realised just how much fun creating worlds could be…” As well as quite possibly the most stupid thing they’d ever done. “…I only have two worlds to work with.”

“Why do you think that’s going to be a problem?” Mairin asked, looking slightly confused. “From what I’ve seen the others have been working on hidden cities, continents, even worlds, and I’m certain that you have the ability to do the same thing.”

It wasn’t a surprise to hear that the other creators were hiding things. Piaras hadn’t talked about the plans he had for his worlds with many of the other creators, in part because he wanted his recreation time to be just that and in part because no one else did. When they all gathered together at the end of the day it was nothing more than what they’d always done. Even though they were family they didn’t all like each other, but it was nice to have a routine that reminded them of home. There were times when he wished they didn’t, it felt wrong to be trying to cling to the past, and yet he looked forward to it every day. He didn’t know what that said about him.

“I probably do,” Piaras said, looking at the sketches he’d created and nodding. “Siaral would work… I could fit another continent over there, which could be the home of your race, and it should be easy enough to keep it hidden from the rest of the world. That’s simple enough. It would mean I’d need a secondary door.”

“Some of the other worlds…” Mairin shook her head. “I probably shouldn’t talk about them.”

Piaras glanced at her. “No, you probably shouldn’t, but I’d like to know.”

A smile lit up Mairin’s eyes. “I’ve been working with three of the other world creators and they’ve been experimenting more than I think Mab would be happy with.”

“That doesn’t surprise me.”

“Emrys has been working with more race creators than I expected and apparently he’s going to need at least twelve doors on one of his worlds. It’s called Gaelom.”

“Twelve? Why would you need twelve doors on one world?”
