Brendan was staring at me. I knew because I could feel his eyes on me, even though I was doing my best to ignore him, and in the end it was never going to be enough. He’d made his decision. He made it long before I knew what he was. Finding out the truth was what had brought an end to our relationship. That wasn’t something I was planning on changing, but I knew him well enough to be certain I wouldn’t be able to stop him when he finally changed me. I’d done everything I could to keep my distance. I didn’t want to be a vampire. Ever since the end of the world, for want of a better phrase, there have been far fewer humans, and it’s something he should care about. Vampires are only permitted to change one human each now, and I would be his. He told me that when I asked him if the rumours were try.
