Whoever it was knocking on the door was impatient. “Hang on,” Bellona snarled at them, brushing a hand through her messy hair.
They kept knocking. Shaking her head Bellona went to open it, glancing in the mirror as she walked past. Her hair didn’t look too bad, her clothes were clean and uncreased, and she looked more awake than she felt. None of that made her want to open the door to the irritating person who kept knocking, but she had a feeling that they wouldn’t stop until she had answered them. All she wanted to do was curl up in a ball with a mug of tea.
“What?” Bellona asked, impolitely, once the door was open and she knew who it was.
“You need to come with me,” Anatoliy replied, pushing past her.
Without closing the door she turned and stared at him. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”
“Do you really think you have a choice?” Anatoliy’s eyes met Bellona’s and they blazed with fire. “I’ve been sent here by Father.”
“I don’t care if the Queen sent you here. I’m not going anywhere with you.”
“They’ve found us.” He turned away and walked into her bedroom. “Where’s your suitcase?”
Bellona closed the door, sighing, and followed him. “Who’s found you and why does it affect me?”
“Stop asking questions and start packing. We have five minutes.” Anatoliy glanced at her. “It would have been ten if you hadn’t taken so long to answer the door.”
“I’m not leaving my life behind for no reason.”
“Do you really think I’d come here for no reason?”
“Anything is possible.”
With one hand Anatoliy started taking tops out of a drawer that Bellona hadn’t even realised he’d opened. “You know what we are.”
“No one knows I know what you are.”
“We’re not taking any chances.”
“I’m not leaving.”
Growling, he opened another drawer and yanked out items of clothing. “Seriously, we don’t have time to argue about this. Father wants you with us, so your only choice is whether you come willingly or not.”
“Really?” Shaking her head, Bellona started returning her clothes to where they belonged. “I don’t want to have to deal with you at this time in the morning… I don’t want to have to deal with you at all, so the thought of you leaving is heaven and there is no way I’m letting you drag me wherever it is you’re going.”
Growling, Anatoliy turned to glare at her. “We’ve been being hunted ever since someone found out about the powers we have,” he said. “If they even get the slightest hint that someone might know about us then they won’t stop until they find you and you will end up getting hurt.”
“Who are they?”
He shrugged. “We don’t know. All we know is that they want to control at least one of us and that’s more than enough of a reason to keep running.”
Bellona stared at Anatoliy, trying to ignore what he was doing. “That makes no sense. Surely you should find out who’s been hunting and get rid of them, rather than keep running.”
