“Throughout history there are always points in time when things can be changed, if you wish to,” Idwal said, looking at the group he had gathered in order to begin planning how he was going to change the Earth so it would be safe for the fae, “but the ability that we have been given is one that has as many disadvantages as advantages. It would be easy to change something and makes things worse in the future, when what you were attempting to do was make the world a better place. Earth is somewhere we’re going to need to be very careful about what we change, because it would be very easy to make the wrong choices.”

Idwal had already thought about points in Earth’s history that could lead to the fae travelling to a world that would be safer that it was when he last checked. He also knew that he could end up making the world a lot worse and having that responsibility on his shoulders was both terrifying and exhilarating. Everyone in the room would be given a choice, he wasn’t going to force anyone into doing something they felt was wrong, but there were two fae he hoped would choose to work with him.

“We have always been very careful about travelling through time. Normally it wouldn’t be permitted.” Idwal did his best not to think of the fae who had disappeared after they were told that they weren’t permitted to use one of the abilities they’d been born with. “Times, however, are changing and the only thing we can do is make the Earth a safer place for the fae who end up there.”

“Will it be us?” a female voice asked from the back of the room.

“No, it won’t. It seems likely that it will be one of two groups and the most probable is those fae under the rule of Queen Willow.”

“Willow…” The male at the front of the room raised an eyebrow. “That’s a sign that things really are going to fall apart if Willow is going to end up being Queen.”

“You’re right about that. We’re lucky that we have some idea of what’s coming and you’re lucky that your King and Queen actually attempt to make decisions when things are going wrong.”

“So what do you want us to do?” the same female voice asked, sounding a little unhappy.

“It’s entirely up to you if you take part, but what we would like is to change the history of the United Kingdom. There are plenty of time periods we could travel to. Personally I’m interested in the Plantagenet and Tudor periods, as there are a number of things we could change, and in different ways.”

“What happens,” the male at the front started, “when we do change the past?”

“That is part of the reason this would never have been permitted before.” Idwal sighed. “Every change we make will lead to there being an alternate Earth created and…” He glanced at the desk before looking back at the fae in front of him. “Unfortunately there is no guarantee that Willow and her fae will even find the right Earth.”
