“No prophecy is ever one hundred per cent certain,” Sabia said, tapping her fingers on the desk as she looked at Idwal. “It’s entirely possible that this one may never come to pass.”

Idwal shook his head. “It may be possible, but it’s not likely. Four seers have told me about the end of our world and we need to be ready for it when it comes.”

The Queen looked at her King. “What do you think we can do?” she asked, knowing what the answer was going to be before she even asked the question.

“The only thing we can.” Their eyes met. “I know how you feel about time travel, but I think that we only have one option now. Earth needs to be made safe for the habitation of our race and…” Idwal bit his lip. “It’s possible we could save this world too.”

Sabia ran a hand through her hair, looking down at the desk as she tried to think of another option, before looking at him again. “How long do we have?”

“Less than a century.” He shrugged. “Exactly how long depends on several factors, none of which are under our control, so all we can do is work with what we can control.”

“They aren’t going to listen if we tell them what we know.”

“Of course they aren’t.” The smile Idwal gave Sabia told her exactly what he thought of their race. “Burying their heads in the sand is what they’re best at.”

“Okay…” Sighing, Sabia tried summoning her own smile, and she knew exactly what he was reading in it. “Start the plans and keep me informed what you decide.” When Idwal reached out to touch her hand with his she knew he was showing his sympathy. “I would like to know everything you know about what’s likely to happen.”

“The seers don’t know everything, just that our world is going to be ended by the selfishness of our race and one of the groups may end up on Earth.”

“How likely is that?”

“All of the four seers have told me that the fae will end up on Earth, but each of them have seen a different group, so that makes it almost a certainty.”

“So the Earth does need to be one of our focuses.” Biting her lip Sabia looked down at the desk again. “Do we know what will happen to the thirteen families?”

“Sabby…”

“Don’t. Just tell me what you know.”

“Two of the seers told me that their stubbornness will lead to the end of the thirteen families, while the other two have seen them finding another world. They don’t know what will happen to them once they’re on the other world, so they might not survive even then, but they may.”

She nodded, still staring at the desk because it was easier than looking at him. “Thank you.”

“You left the thirteen families behind for a reason. Now that you’re free of them…” Idwal squeezed Sabia’s hand. “Put them to the back of your mind and focus on the people you chose to live with.”
