I chose Egypt specifically because of the mix of practical and mystical elements in their medicine. When I was writing I was thinking it was more genetic, but they probably wouldn't have changed if it wasn't for the catalyst of the doctor, so he had an effect too.
The four original vampires were likely to have gone to different places because they didn't get on well together. I think I need to make a start on working out where each of them went and how they got there. One of those four vampires did begin the auctions, and I have a feeling Alice, Nick, and Nick's creator are all related to that one vampire. I need to start working on a 'family' tree for this I think, which will also help with the saliva chemical information.
