With Lucille's first story going up yesterday I've been thinking about the 34 worlds she can travel to. So far I have eight that I am definitely using for story lines and three with possible storylines, which means that I have 23 worlds that I'm not using in any way. I want to use all the worlds, at least for maybe one or two stories, and I've got a long history for how they came to be. There's also a thirty-fifth world that is no longer connected by any door but was - the first story for that world will probably be going up this month. Yes, I am using a lot of doorways in my world, and I have a reason for that, which will all be revealed in time. :) Anyway, what would be useful right now is for people to help me build the remaining worlds. If anyone is interested then let me know via email or PM and I'll give you some more information on what I'm actually looking for. I thought this would be good for people who love world building but don't feel like they can write stories or for those who just want to get involved in creating a world that they would enjoy reading stories about. Anyone who gets involved will receive credits for any help they give me.
I'm also thinking of one new thing that I can do and a couple of things I might change. The new thing is much like character adoption but instead is world renting (I may come up with a better name for it later) so you can get a selection of stories in a world of your choice, which means that you could receive stories on a selection of different characters. It will be slightly different from character adoption because everyone who rents a world will receive four stories a month, between 1000 words and 4000 words a story depending on the donation amount. Thinking about this has led to me thinking of what I could change with the character adoption to make it better. I am going to make it so that the other character adoptions can be bought with a mixture of credits and cash, but along with this I might make it so that people can adopt their own characters. If I do this then I'll edit the credit information so people get more for their credits if they choose to buy stories that way. I've also been thinking of making it so that more than one person can adopt a character in a month. The other thing is giving people the ability to make more than one character in a six month period, because I think it would work better if it's more open although I do still want a limit. Maybe four characters a year for someone who just reads and comments, which could increase with the amount the person gets involved, so doing artwork would increase it, or prompting, just so that it's easier.
If anyone has any input for me then let me know. Input keeps me working. :)

Date: 2011-12-30 10:57 pm (UTC)Busy as I am, this piqued my interest. I love worldbuilding. I'll email you and we can discuss possibilities.
If you haven't already, you might consider giving each of these worlds some kind of theme. That would make them more distinctive and set up exciting contrasts if people from different worlds happen to meet. Frex, if you look at my poetic series, you can see examples:
* Fiorenza the Wisewoman -- pastoral life, authority, community, healing
* Path of the Paladins -- spirituality, honor, service, rape, moving past defeat
* The Steamsmith -- science, racism, sexism, politics, what it means to be a gentleman
>>The new thing is much like character adoption but instead is world renting (I may come up with a better name for it later) so you can get a selection of stories in a world of your choice, which means that you could receive stories on a selection of different characters.<<
I love this! I do have favorite characters, but the series are really how I think of my favorites. I'd be thrilled to rent a world.
>>I might make it so that people can adopt their own characters.<<
SQUEE!! I would pounce on John Good Road. You might consider offering this at a higher point-cost than adopting a character created by someone else. You've been looking for some higher-point items anyhow; this is a good one.
>>I've also been thinking of making it so that more than one person can adopt a character in a month.<<
I'm ambivalent about this, leaning slightly against it. On the one hand, it might encourage more participation. On the other, it makes adoption less special and undercuts the reason for the 6-month limit.
Do you already have people wanting to adopt the same characters? You have dozens of characters, so ideally, it would be better if readers spread out their support somewhat. If readers are really crowding toward just a few characters, then shared adoption might be worth considering. But if it's not happening like that, I'd stick with one at a time for now.

I like what you've done with this, and plan to take more advantage of it when I have time. Character creation is something I'm good at and enjoy doing.
