Talking about... Eorith
Eorith is one of the Fae World worlds. When I started writing it I knew it was going to be a world with classes, but I'm still working out exactly which ones I plan to use and how that's going to affect things. Obviously, because it's one of my worlds, I had to add unusual races. The first one to be introduced were the Curatix Canes. I have to admit to using a lot of Latin to name things, as well as some other languages, but I never used more than one language in a name. I also have to admit to having a lot of races that are mammals, often dogs and cats, although there are a number of other animals on the World Walkers worlds. (Feel free to ask questions about them.) The Curatix Canes are dogs, about the size of Great Dane or English Mastiff, and they have magic.
I'm still working out the magic of this world. That can be one of the most difficult parts of the world building I do, in part because I write at different times, and magic, in my worlds, always evolves. I might learn something about it and then find it's different in ten, twenty, or a hundred years time. What I do know about it is that the magical races have dealt with a long war, that I'm still learning about, which is why humans are being drawn there by the magic of the world - so it's obvious they're going to have an effect on what happens next.
As it's one of the worlds I know least about it would be great to have someone to bounce ideas with, especially related to the classes and magic, because that always helps. I know there are several other races, one humanoid, but so far they haven't come forward yet. The other thing that helps is asking for more stories on this world, as I often learn as I write.

I hear the call of my people
I TOO have a magic world that I'm building up all my notes are here on
Anyway, I LOVE world building stuff, so... what would you like to talk about?
Re: I hear the call of my people
We could be here for a while. I have far too many worlds, although a lot of them are connected. Most of them I'm getting somewhere with, but with Eorith I'm having more issues, because I'm not entirely certain how I'm going to translate magical classes that are normally used in games into a book. Kristen, for example, is a druid. I just think there's more to it than that. Like the spells she can cast are affected by something - which might be the moon, or the sun, or where she is, or something. That is one of the worst things about world building as I'm writing. I don't always know everything I need to know.

I tend to write something and THEN later realize it fits into one verse or the other. Roost, for example, started out as one story, now it's a verse with 7. I sort of split verses up by the "rules", you know?
As far as turning a game mechanic into a true worldverse, I think that the way that works best for me is to do a combination of things. I would look up a few areas as to what it is to be a druid, do I want to keep that name? In many canons, druids gain power from the earth. Perhaps she needs to have soil of her homeland near her, certain plants or animals to help center her and draw from her.
In my universe all magic is sort of tied to the planet that people live on, it's called the Powers. Certain people can tap into it and the degree that they are able to draw from it sort of denotes their "class" if that makes sense. I tend to say that the Powers are like a river and the people are channels/dams.
Does that help?

Soil of her homeland would be difficult, considering the fact she was from Earth and found herself on Eorith due to magic. I was thinking it might have something to do with the time at which she found herself there, but, from what I've written, it seems that mostly happens at dawn, when the new arrivals wake up and find themselves on another world. Plants might work better, especially as she woke up under a tree... oh, yes, that could be it. Druids that have magic connected to a specific tree. So if they woke up under an oak their magic would be oak magic. I don't know how that's going to turn out, but it does seem to make a lot of sense, and explains why the druids wake up all over the place. Now I just need to work out what the other classes are.
The humans who end up there almost always have magic of some kind. So that's druids, sorcerers, witches, wizards, necromancers... I had a list somewhere. Knowing my luck it's at the office. I really do need to start using Evernote for my scribbles instead of random bits of paper.
As you can see you have helped. That's why I like doing things like this. Worldbuilding while I'm writing always works better. :)

You basically have to go to school and pick a "major" so to speak to be a mage of any kind.

Other worlds of mine are different... and I have so many of them. Some of them have had more work done on them than others. It all depends on how well liked those worlds are.

I think that classes are still very useful, I come from and RPG background and I've found games like "Dragon Age" to be extremely artful storytelling.

I like classes, and it makes sense for this. Hopefully, once I have them sorted for Eorith, it will make any other natural game worlds a little easier. The created games are going to be a different matter entirely.
