The World Walkers: AU Taithmarin: Anna: Stepping Onto Another World (part 5)
Anna ran a hand through her hair as she tried to think about what she needed to know in the short term. It was difficult, because there was so much she wanted to do, and her mind felt full of questions she wanted to ask. “You mentioned income before, Zoe,” she said finally. “How much will it be?”
“Each of you will receive 1200 clays a month, so together you’ll have a monthly income of 3600 clays, and 1200 of that will have to go towards your rent. The rent includes all the bills as well, which I’ve always thought makes things a lot easier when you’ve only just arrived here.”
“So we’ll be paying 300 clays each a month, as long as we’re living together?”
“New arrivals normally stay in the flat they first moved into for two years, which gives them time to get used to this world and the races who live here a chance to get used to them, but the position you’re in will make it easy for you to petition the council for an early change of residence. You’ll each get a catalogue of all the available homes in Yellowbrook, unless you decide you want to live somewhere else for whatever reason, and once you’ve picked the flat or house you want you tell the council, so they can give you a moving date.”
“If one of us moves, do we all have to?” Conrad asked.
“You don’t have to, but it would be easier, because paying the rent and buying groceries each month would be difficult if there were only two of you there.”
“And impossible if only one of us stayed,” Lucas commented. “What sort of income would we be looking at when we start working?”
“The minimum wage is 6 clays an hour and a normal person will work one nine hour shift every day of the week, so you’ll be looking at an average yearly wage of around 29,000 clays.”
“Does that mean you’re not normal because you work two shifts a day?” Anna asked, remembering Zoe mentioning her two jobs.
Zoe nodded. “Although I don’t get paid a wage for the work I do for the Snow People, because it isn’t technically a job. They give me what they call a donation towards my living expenses to show their appreciation, which helps a lot with my rent, as I’m currently paying for a six bedroom place in the mixed centre of town.”
“How much is that?”
“2400 clays a month, but my house mates do help.” Glancing over her shoulder Zoe smiled. “At the moment I’m living with a rather large group of Nox Gadael, because I agreed to share with three pregnant Gadael and they’ve all had their puppies now. It’s been the best experience of my life, even though sometimes it’s a little too much to deal with.”
“Is that part of the reason you agreed to guide us?”
“A little, but mostly I was just interested in who would come through the door so unexpectedly.”

So, either there are three of them sharing and each earning 1200 which adds up to 3600 and so they need to find 400 (a third of 1200) for rent or there are four of them sharing and they need to find 300 for rent and that would be 4800 income. Or I am braindead from the heat and humidity.
