Update: 2nd June 2015

(I don't think my brain's every going to accept it's 2015 and not 2014.)

June is going to be the month when I get back to writing original fiction. This is important to me, because I think it's part of the reason I've been feeling so adrift at the moment, although I know it's not the whole reason. Even though Trevor died in March I'm still coming to terms with that. For those of you who don't know Trevor's my father and we had a difficult relationship. His death was unexpected, even though he was ill, so it's still something I'm learning to accept. I won't get any random texts, or annoying emails, or hear from him again at all. I'm not going to get into that too much, as it's not the reason I started this post - although it does connect. No one knows when their death might come and there's still so much I want to write. Even though I should still have 20 or more years to go there are no guarantees, but I'm one of those people who doesn't view spending an hour playing a video game as wasting time if that's what you want to be doing. Enjoying life, to me, is one of the most important things, and I enjoy writing more than anything else, which is why I want to be writing more.

One of the certainties I have is that I'm a very fast writer. I can write 10,000 words in four hours, as long as I'm writing a story I connect with. Even if I don't the base is around 8,000 words in four hours, because my lowest limit is 2000 words an hour, if I'm focusing on writing rather than anything else. My top is 12,000 words in four hours. Due to this I should be able to do the things I want to be doing - the problem is the distractions of life. There's doggy day care. There's James. There's having to look after the house. There's spending time with my family. All of this adds together to make it far too easy for me to lose focus on what I want to be doing around the ghostwriting. It's the reason I'm thinking an office would be good for me. It will be somewhere purely for work and nothing else.

The rest of this is going behind a cut, as I have spoken about all this before, so I don't want to bore anyone.

I have my collections. For anyone who's interested and doesn't know the Many Worlds very well I do have a Beginner's Guide. I thought this was the best way to introduce my worlds. I'm not writing as much for the Inquistion now, although I'm trying to work out how I can, and this might end up being a series of novellas. When I started this I did it the way I chose because I wanted people to get involved. Something I want to make a start on as soon as possible are character creation sheets, to make it easier for anyone who might want to create a character for me to write about or for them to write about. I love fanfic. I love people writing in my worlds. I'd love for someone to start up a Donor House in their country or their county. I'd love for someone to pick one of the Web worlds and take them over. As long as you let me know what you're up to I'm happy for you to play around. You never know - I might even include your work as canon.

The other reason I did this is because I love writing AUs and crossovers. They're my favourite things ever and I've started a list of the AUs I'd like to write. The next thing will be the crossovers. To be honest that's the reason I have lots of beginnings. I want to get a beginning down when I come up with an idea, otherwise I know it'll probably be stuck in my head for months, but the problem with that is the fact I have too many ideas. I need to start finishing things and that's what I thought the Monthly Membership would be good for. I know there are people who prefer to read on ereaders, so I want everything to be available for them, but I do want to be selling what I feel is the beginning of a story as something that's complete. Although that part of the story is finished there's always so much more to write to it. In general I write more about characters than I do about plot. There is always something happening, but the reason I can end up with far more words than I expected to a story is because the characters have decided they're going to have a conversation about something and there's nothing I can do to stop them. (My characters, in general, do what they want. I have limited control over them.) So what I'm thinking about is how I can make that work best. Do I create the ebooks for those stories and then create another one when I've done the next part or do I update the original ebook? I'm guessing the latter might irritate people if the updates happened too often. I don't know. Opinions are always appreciated, so if you're reading this let me know what you think.

Another thing I've been working on is some stand-alone series, although, judging by the way things have gone before, they will have some sort of connection to the collections. One of them already is a part of one of the collections, so I need to decided what I'm going to do with that. Will I just add the series to the Monthly Membership? Will I sell it separately? Will I do both? The beginning can be seen at Patreon, which seems to have become a place for early access to my novellas. Having a couple of people, or more, read and comment would be helpful, but they're Patron Only. If it wasn't for the fact I do need my orginal work to start making some income I would post them as freebies. That might well be why I haven't - I post far too much for free and I need to stop that. I just want people to be able to read what I write. However the time has come to get series about making money from this, so I need to stop that.

I also have a beginning for two of my other series posted at Patreon. That's the Sleeping World and the 'Ships series. I'm calling them a beginning because I'm doing what I always do and working out my characters, the worlds they're a part of, and everything else by writing the story - so if you ever find continuity errors that's why. It's the way I write best, most of the time. At some point this month, when I've named the main character, I'll also be posting a beginning to one of my other series - the Demon Assassins series. Then I want to be starting work on the Missing series, which is going to be about a young woman who ends up travelling through a number of fictional worlds. I don't know if it's going to be by choice or not. I'm sure I'll get told eventually. Finally I have West Sun Rising, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, that are meant to be a series of novels, but I might switch to novellas. I prefer writing them.
