The Fae World: Earth: Theo: Travelling to Earth (part 2)

Part 1

“I honestly don’t think it’s going to be any shorter for you,” Alder replied, their eyes meeting. “That cat shifters are set up towards the far corner, nearest to the gate. We’ve put the dog shifters in the opposite corner. You may get along with Alena, but I know the packs don’t feel the same way about having you anywhere near them, so I thought it was the safest option.”

Theo nodded. “You’re right about that.” He smiled. “Thank you for putting so much thought into everything. Without you we might well have ended up going with the griffins, which is something I don’t think would have worked so well for us, because Earth…” Looking around he took in a deep breath. “It feels right for us.”
“Good.” Alder reached out and squeezed Theo’s shoulder. “As I’m sure you’ve realised I’m going to be busy for the next day, but then, if you want to talk, I’ll be about.”

“Hopefully things will work out well for both our races, and for Alena’s.” Theo bit his lip. “Have you heard anything from the merpeople yet?”

Alder shook his head. “We weren’t expecting to for at least a couple of days. It’s going to take that long for the magic to spread to the cost and they had a longer journey than we do from their door to where their planning on living. They weren’t lucky enough to have Willow create a door for them, they could only use one that was already there, so I believe it would be about a day’s journey for them to be able to reach the coast.” He shrugged. “Unfortunately I don’t know as much about them as I’d like to, because they were only comfortable talking to Willow, but I hope that will change in the future.”

“Being here does mean we’re going to have to work together much more and I have no idea how that’s going to work out. Getting the cats to work together can be hard enough, but with the dogs, and the mer, and the fae…” Theo shook his head. “Add in the humans and we do have a recipe for disaster, if things go wrong, so all we can do is hope that it won’t.”

“Willow and I have done everything we can to plan for as many of the possibilities as possible, although we know that might not be enough. Having us all together isn’t going to be easy, but it really was our only option, and I don’t need to tell you that when you already know how bad things were. On Earth we will survive – I just don’t know if we’ll be able to thrive. There are so many problems, so many people working against us, that I feel like everything might just topple over onto us. All I can do is hope that is doesn’t.” Alder sighed. “Getting through today is going to be hard enough and I’ve already spent a full day working.”

“Alder, please tell me if there’s anything I can do to help.”

“Honestly all I need you to do is get the cats settled. Everything else we can do.”
