The Fae World: The Fae School: Niobe: Entering the School

Before my magic manifested I thought I was a pure shifter, but I don’t know why. I know very little about either side of my family, because we don’t keep track of our bloodlines in the same way the fae do and that means we have very little knowledge of who my ancestors might have had relationships with, although I do know now that at least one of them must have had a child who was shifter-fae. When Willow found out about me… you have no idea how hard I was hoping she never would, because I knew that she’d want me to go to the school she set up and that wasn’t something I really wanted. Now, though, thanks to her annoyingly convincing arguments, I find myself standing outside of the building, hoping that whoever I’m going to share a dorm with will be understanding. Having a shifter in the school is unusual, to say the least.

“You’re going to be fine.” River’s standing next to me, because Willow thought I wouldn’t come if I didn’t have a chaperon and it’s not a surprise that she chose someone she trusted implicitly. “Most of the fae here are open minded. The few that aren’t are easy enough to ignore, so don’t let them get to you. Normally you should go to the head of the Shifter student’s department, but I told Kingston I’d be with you and he said it would be fine if I took you straight to your dorm to get settled in… unless you want the extra time.”

“Will he tell me anything I don’t already know?”

“No, Willow told you everything. She was certain you would say no and that was something she didn’t want to happen, because she really does believe that you will be an asset in the future.”

“For now I have to get through the next four to six years at the school.”

“I know.” River sounded amused. “Honestly, it’s not going to be that bad. The girls in your dorm are good people, Naida hasn’t arrived yet but I know enough about her that I have no worries about the two of you getting on, and I have a feeling that this year is going to be a good year for human-fae students.”

“The Queen told me that had been an issue recently.”

“Sometimes it happens. We’ll get maybe ten or twenty students in the space of a couple of years and then no one will find any of the entrances for a while. It means Petunia doesn’t have much to do, although she’s also head of the mer-fae student’s department, because we don’t have many mer-fae applying to come here at the moment.” River sighed. “Having more mixed bloods is something even the elders are beginning to think is important, so the quotas will hopefully be going up soon, so hopefully having Naida here will begin to convince the mer-fae that they should apply, because this school is for them as well.”
