Daylight hours.

With Escapade panels going live this Solstice, it gives me room to plan about planning - I've made sure I don't have anything scheduled for this coming Wednesday, for example, so I expect that's when most of it's going to be happening. I'm hosting the Andor panel, so I'll start going through a few Tumblr and Dreamwidth accounts for meta posts, collecting conversation starters, and ask for help making slides if need be.

Much as I'm not looking forward to Tuesday, I'm very much looking forward to Tuesday night and having survived it. Hopefully it'll only be a long day in terms of hours.

Fandom Fifty: #17

1991, and I was very much settled into my Gaming Group. Apparently I was managing to go to the theater more, as I opened 22 tabs, after skipping at least a dozen less memorable offerings. Hmm, gotta narrow this down. 12? Twelve is doable.

~ Toy Soldiers - Teenage rebellion against a hostage situation. Honestly loved the acting here.
~ Hudson Hawk - What is NOT to love about music-timed heists and Bruce Willis playing off Danny Aiello?
~ Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Honestly, when I rewatched this, I found it enjoyable but very much not definitive. Still, great cast.

~ The Rocketeer - Fun. Pure Fun. Also, watching the guys realize that was SARAH from Labyrinth amused the hell out of me.
~ Terminator 2: Judgment Day - +grits teeth+ Cameron knows how to make a sequel equal or better than the previous entry. Linda Hamilton is who sold me on this movie though.
~ Point Break - Before Brian and Dom got their hooks into me for Fed and Crook, these two... damn. Love them.

~ Showdown in Little Tokyo - ALL the warnings for this, especially violence against women. However. Brandon Lee and Dolph Lundgren offer up a great partnership, even as the yakuza and Japanese 'culture' references that frame the movie are... Hollywood to extreme.
~ The Addams Family - AWW YEAH, first limo event! LOL. K was driving for one of the local mafia and had use of the limo when it wasn't hired. Pack of 16-29 year old geeks rolling out to see this icon in a limo. Great times.
~ My Girl - So y'all remember when family friendly movies didn't shy away from handling death? Yeah. Completely unspoilered for this, and P ended up sobbing all over me.

~ Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - Limo excursion. Some of us in ST uniform. I was at 90+ hours conscious, which made it an interesting experience.
~ Father of the Bride - As remakes go, this one rocked it. And I still love to watch it AND the sequel.
~ Fried Green Tomatoes - First entry in Mary Louise Parker is queer and breaks my heart. Also, if you have only seen the film, do yourself a favor and read the book too. They complement one another.

Brendon nearly stumbled as he hurried toward the side path. Nervously, he tugged at the hem of his tangerine orange polo shirt as he swallowed, trying to dampen the rasping dry cavern of his mouth. His watch chirped, but he didn’t spare a flicker of his gaze away from the smooth white sidewalk.

As he turned the last bend before the bathrooms, he froze.

A dark-haired woman lay on the ground, alone.

Birdfeeding

Today is cloudy and muggy.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches.  I also saw a male cardinal and a squirrel up in the trees.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/20/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

Bodies!

Happy Nystagmus Awareness Day. I wrote a kind of FAQ about nystagmus a while ago.

I had to explain the basics of what nystagmus is to the assessor who did my PIP assessment the other day. (They used to at least tell you they were a physio or a nurse or whatever, now they don't even bother letting on how unqualified they are to be assessing your particular condition.)

Oh speaking of, I got a phone call today, from an 800 number I'd been ignoring for a few days because it never left a message or anything. I mostly answered it by accident today. And it turned out to be from Maximus or whichever shitty entity the DWP have outsourced their assessments to in my region, saying they need more information from me so now I have to talk to them on the phone on Monday! Ugh. I've never had this happen before.

Got a text this morning saying that I need to book a blood test before I get more meds too. Ugh! More needles and more lectures about being fat. Not a fun day for admin relating to having a body!

Kirk vs Kirk (ft. Pride)

I tragically can't find the post again, but a few days ago, I ran over one of the most perfect AOS Kirk vs TOS Kirk summations I've seen on Tumblr, re: Pride. I'm extemporizing because I don't remember the phrasing at all, but the overall tenor was:

Okay, the difference between them is not that one Kirk is bi and the other isn't, they are both extremely bi. But if AOS Kirk was at Pride, he'd be wearing a slutty crop top while in the actual parade, and goes out drinking to the local gay bar after it's over. TOS Kirk supportively goes to the parade, gets a headache an hour in, and leaves to watch an all-male Shakespeare in the Park production of Hamlet.

And truly, I'm not sure I've read a better analysis to date :P

For the record, it's definitely possible to get a sunburn in less than ten minutes. As the top of my buzzed head can confirm.

I walked to a nearby shopping center yesterday to run some errands, which is something like a 7-8 minute walk away, and I didn't think anything of it despite it being miserably hot because of the humidity. At least, not until last night, when I realized that I had a noticeable sunburn on my head from that walk.

Oops?

Butt spiders

I had a dream during my nap wherein someone mentioned a creature called a "butt spider," which they said was a spider that lives in one's butthole. I quipped back with "They're not spiders, they're crustaceans that look and act like spiders."

So that dream universe has butt spiders I guess, even though they're not spiders. Something to put on the tourism brochure, I guess, as a warning.

Daily Happiness

1. They announced the amounts for our biannual bonus and the pre-tax amount is a little higher than last time. Not sure what the take-home amount will be, but I'll find out next Friday. (The day after my birthday, so that's a nice present.)

2. For some reason this week has felt so long. Like every day I've felt like it must be Friday. Even Monday! And now tomorrow is finally Friday! I'm excited about that. Taking next Thursday off for the aforementioned birthday, so it will be a short week, too. (And then the week after that I get that Friday off for 4th of July, so two short weeks in a row!)

3. Tuxie looks so contented.
