I know I've got a lot of writers on my friends list, so it would be great if you could have a look and see what you think. The forum's pretty quiet at the moment, but the members I've had a chance to talk with have all been really nice, and I really like it there.

Worldsmyths is a non-role playing community of fantasy writers and readers who enjoy looking through the wrong end of a telescope, filled with writers of diverse backgrounds and experiences. We discuss everything from writer's block to cliches, to magic systems and technology as well as other things such as helpful resources and more. Our library is members only and serves as a great way to read the writing that's been posted and give chapter-by-chapter reviews. We also have month long writing challenges and a trove of writing prompts.

Features:
*Writing discussion and resources
*Writing prompts and challenges
*Beta reading
*Games
*Members only library with opportunity for feedback
*Friendly staff and members
and much more!

Now that I've got a few more completed stories up at the website I'm going to ask for some help. There are two things I'd really like to happen - I'd really appreciate it if people could use my reaction buttons, which are set up to tell me what my readers would like to see more of, and if you could share any stories you particularly like somewhere. I'm using a different plug in for my sharing button, which means you can share pretty much anywhere online. As my focus for this year is to increase regular readership every share really does help.

Although I have this all up on Ebay I'm not having much luck selling, so I'm also going to post the list up here to see if anyone is interested in taking any, or all, of this off my hands. This is all art stuff I haven't used, because I don't art any more, and the paints have been sitting around for a little while, so I'm not certain how good they're going to be. Below is the full list. Like I said I'm happy to split it up, so I'm going to put prices for each thing, but if you want more than one item let me know and we can work out a price we're both happy with.

One ceramic palette, slightly damaged when purchased. There is a minor issue with the glaze in one area. I have pictures. £2, plus postage.

Derwent Tinted Charcoal set. £5, plus postage.

Derwent Graphitint set, missing any accessories. £5, plus postage.

Raphael 24 Soft Pastels. £5, plus postage.

24 Watercolour pencils, unbranded. £5, plus postage.

Jaxon 12 Metallic Oil Pastels. £3, plus postage.

Jaxon 24 Oil Pastels. £5, plus postage.

Daler Rowney A5 Acrylic Paper 20 Sheets. £1, plus postage.

Daler Rowney A4 Cartridge Paper 25 Sheets. £2, plus postage.

Box of mixed acrylics, some Windsor and Newton with some Daler Rowney, all tubes. Includes Pearlescent Tinting Medium. £5, plus postage.

3 Tray Art Bin. (Everything below is currently in the Art Bin, so it can stay that way or I can send these separately.) £10, plus postage.

Putty rubber. £1, plus postage.

Double sharpener. 50p, plus postage.

Reeves Watercolour tubes (unknown quantity). £3, plus postage.

Reeves Gouache tubes (unknown quantity, but less than the watercolours). £1.50, plus postage.

Coates Charcoal 30 small sticks. £2, plus postage.

Assorted Anita Acrylics, including metallics, in bottles. £3, plus postage.

Please boost the signal. I'd love to sell all of this, because I want someone to love them, and at the moment it's all just collecting dust, which makes me sad.

Invoice is still unpaid. Internet is driving me batty, because the signal is terrible. Have been looking after Tilly, Milly, and Bob since last Friday, but tomorrow is finally the last day of me being on duty. Am stressed... worried... annoyed... and just fed up with life right now.

Anyone who's willing to help me out with the rent will get words. $20 gets one complete story. $30 gets two. $40 gets three. $60 gets five. Top limit is $100 for nine completed stories. New or old. Doesn't matter if you don't know my worlds - I'll finish something for you and send it to you via email, as well as posting it at the website. My paypal is kayleigh.a.webb[at]gmail[dot]com. Every little bit is appreciated and signal boosting is definitely helpful.

First of all I want to say thank you to [livejournal.com profile] ellenmillion for her wonderful donation. I'll be started work on your story(s) as soon as possible.

Then I need to ask for a little help. My first income clears around about the 12th of this month, which is great, but the problem I currently have is not having enough in my account to be able to buy some groceries before that - and I'm low on things I really need if I'm going to be able to have a meal that's more than sausages. So if anyone has anything to spare and would like me to write for them please let me know. My paypal is kayleigh.a.webb[at]gmail.com. As I said before I'll write for my collections, or just give me genre, or prompt, or character name. $10 will get you 4000 words of fiction.

My goal is $75, preferably by the end of the weekend, because then I can shop on the Monday. If I reach that there will be surprises. If I top it there will be even more surprises.

I'm nearly done with the World Walkers. All I have left to do is the end of Quiar and then I have all the stories for all the worlds connected in timeline order. Now the important question becomes whether I should do the entire collection in timeline order or not. Does it make more sense to leave things as they are, with each of the bigger collections separated into smaller pieces, and not bother with trying to create a timeline fo the whole things? There are certain events that effect all the worlds, but in the grand scheme of things, they're relatively unusual. Do I have readers who would like to read all the World Walkers stories in timeline order?

Another option I have is to have the storylines sorted by character, which might make more sense than doing the whole timeline, because then those things that are connected will be connected. I think I almost prefer that idea, personally, but I don't know about everyone else.

Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

As I said yesterday I thrive on comments. It makes writing so much more enjoyable for me, so, in an attempt to regain something I feel I've lost, I'm going to have a competition running for the rest of the month. The three people who leave the most comments will get a prize. What those prizes will be will depend on the number of comments I receive in total, which means the more comments I get the longer the prize. Starting here makes the most sense, because that will then lead you to the stories, and it will be easy enough to go from one part to the next - and the best thing you can do is assume whatever you're reading is unfinished. However commenting on unfinished stories will speed me up, because I'll know people want to read them.

The only two untidy collections are the World Walkers and the Donor House, so I'm going to get that sorted in the next week, to make it easier for anyone who might want to read those stories.

Give me a number from 1 to 40 and I will write whatever that number correlates to on my list of many things to do. Don't worry about taking a number that's already taken - I can easily find something more to add to the list. It includes new stories, finishing stories, and continuing story lines.

To get your chosen number to the top of the list add a donation. I have tip jars on my profile (I'm certain about that on DW, but not so certain on LJ) to make it nice and simple. Every little bit helps and will give me more time to complete the list.

Okay, new people, old people, anyone who might happen to read this - what can I do to get people more interested in my writing?

At the moment I'm really not in the right headspace to deal with Amazon in any way, because there are too many people there and I'm going to need some time to build up to that. For those who don't know I have intense social anxiety, so something like that, at the moment, isn't something I'd be capable of dealing with. I've tried the Web Fiction Guide and don't seem to have got anywhere with that. I've tried advertising via Project Wonderful and haven't had any new visitors to my site. This means I need something different.

Crowdfunding in the way I was before, as I've said, isn't possible. Many thanks to the EU for that one. I like Gumroad, because they deal with EU VAT for me, as do Patreon. I'd love to work out how to do it, but that's going to take time I don't have at the moment. So, due to time and anxiety issues I'm going to need something relatively simple.

Suggestions would be great. The more the better. I'm in desperate need of some relatively passive income and I'm hoping, everything's crossed, I'll be able to earn enough to cover the rent for the office using that.
k_a_webb: (Default)
I keep doing it. Every time I look at the stories I want to be writing I get all excited and I want to be able to focus all my energy on that again, but I can't at the moment. Instead I have to ghostwrite stories for other people, because that's how I earn the majority of my money, and if we want to pay the rent I have to earn the money we need to be able to. Sometimes, though, I think I'm the only person who is excited by my worlds, which is disappointing. That's not going to stop me. I'm stubborn, so I'm going to keep going, and believe that, one day in the future, I'm going to be earning all my income from my orginal writing. $1500 isn't an impossible target. $15 a month from 100 people. $5 a month from 300 people. Can I get 300 people interested in what I do? Yes, I can. 300 people is nothing in the grand scheme of things and I'm certain I know people on here who have 20 friends who might like my writing. 20 friends from 10 people is 200 people. I suddenly realise now why signal boosting can be so effective.

Do I know 10 people who are willing to signal boost me? I believe I do, so I'm going to share with you the new product I have on Gumroad. (I think I might have been calling the site Gumtree before, because I am a ditz, but I am on Gumroad.) Yes, I realise this means creating yet another account on another site - but as I've said before I do have limited options, thanks to the EU. This is the Collection One Ebooks. This is a good starting point for all the collections and I will be updating it with all the others, with the only exception being the Inquisition collection, as I don't feel I've written anywhere near enough for it to put the time into creating the ebook. They are also available with the Monthly Membership, but I thought it was a good idea to put them up separately as a one off purchase to give people a chance to get to know what I write and my style, as I know from experience that can put people off.

Obviously there is also the website. A lot of what's in the Collection One Ebooks can be found there, but not everything. The ebooks do have extra stories in, for those who want to read everything, and once I'm all sorted I'm going to be working on finishing things, which will then be uploaded as ebooks for the people who have Monthly Memberships. Anything outside the worlds will, at least to begin with, be sold separately. There is a chance I'll also add them to the ebooks available to those with Monthly Memberships.

For those of you who are interested I decided on doing it this way because I know there are people who are going to want ebook versions of what I've written and I thought this was the best value, especially with the way I write. So for that £5 you're going to end up getting a lot - and I don't doubt I'll be updating the ebooks as I go, as I think that's the best way of doing this, meaning there will be 5,000 more words of story within it, rather than there being another something to download.

From the beginning of May I'm going to need an alpha reader for my collections, because I want to get some stories up on Etsy. If anyone's interested in typo checking please let me know as soon as possible, as my normal alpha reader is ill, so it's relatively urgent. This will be for at least 5,000 words a week, but probably more. Some will be short stories, some will be novellas, and there is a chance there might also be some novels. If more than one person is interested that's great. The more the better.
k_a_webb: (Default)
I've been checking out Amazon, to see if any of the stories I've ghostwritten are published, and I am currently a very happy writer. There is one story in particular, one I obviously can't talk about in a public place, that has several five start reviews, so it's become obvious I need to start work on my own novellas. My plan is to find a nice simple way to get my books onto Amazon without having to ring the IRS or jump through too many hoops, because I really don't have a lot of time at the moment. I probably shouldn't be writing this, as I have orders to work out, but I'm too happy to keep everything to myself, especially as James is currently working on the car (well, actually he's sleeping, but he's at his nan's because he's working on the car, so I can't talk to him).

There are five series I want to start working on, which has gone up from the three from before. I have the Sleeping World series, which, annoyingly, I seemed to begin in the middle, so I'm going to have to see where I'm going with that. I have the Ships' series, books loosely connected to Kim's Earth. I have the Demon Assassins (who, like all of my characters, have decided to tell me that all of my preconceptions were wrong and I'm just going to have to deal with it). I have a vampire series I began for someone else, but he didn't want it, so I'm going to finish it. I have Missing, a story about a girl in a coma who ends up travelling through a number of fictional worlds (I'll be focusing on mine to begin with, but if anyone would be interested in me travelling to their worlds let me know).

Due to my time being so limited (I love that I'm busy and I hate it at the same time - the money is wonderful, but I want to be working on my own work as well) the only way I can see of fitting this all in is for me to offer... well, they aren't written, so they aren't technically preorders, but every $5 will get you a novella. Basically I need to be earning a little from these to begin with in order for me to be able to do what I want to be doing. At Fiverr I earn $5 for 1000 words (technically $4, because they take a dollar, but close enough) so my aim for these is to earn $5 per 5000 words, so I need $25 for each completed novella. My Paypal, for anyone who'd been interested in helping me out with this, is k_a_webb[@]live[dot]co[dot]uk. If you let me know which one you want me to work on I'll try to put that at the top of the list.
k_a_webb: (Default)
I'm still on the hunt for someone who has map drawing skills, as I really don't, unfortunately. Honestly I don't know what most of my worlds look like, although I have an idea of where some places are, so whoever did help would have a lot of freedom to do what they want, and I'm open to them being digital or on paper. The only ones I do have some idea of are Beshaki, Thear (the island), possibly Gaelom, and tiny bits of Aurora's World. As I've said before I pay with words, which can be for my collections or any story you might have wanted to see written before but couldn't find.
k_a_webb: (Default)
Do I know anyone who can help me create some maps for my worlds? This is something I've known I'll need help with for a while, even though I would love to draw my own, because this is simply something outside of my range of skills. It's also not something that I have time to learn, as day care is getting busier, so I'm finding that we're having more days when I don't have as much time to work on writing, and I don't want to lose the time I do have to write (and work on the website) to doing something that is probably going to take me more time that I actually have. As always I am offering words in trade - for every hour you spend working on a map for me I'll write you 2000 words of fiction. I'm also willing to add some of my newly updated donors perks as a little added bonus. Each hour will equal £3 towards one or more of these perks, which can be found here.

I have a number of fantasy worlds that I'd like to have maps for, so this isn't a job I can see being completed particularly quickly. According to my wiki page I have 26 worlds that need maps, but I'm not certain that it's an up to date list and that can be viewed here. The maps, once they're complete, will be added to both the wiki and my introductory ebooks - the wiki is free to view and all the introductory ebooks will be free to download. I might also add them to the collection ebooks, but I think it's more likely that I'll add a link to the wiki as I think it'll make them easier to view, although this isn't something that will change the price.

So if you can help or know someone that can please send me an email or PM me.

Artwork

Do I have any artists on my fl or does someone know anyone who might do some line art for me? I will pay in words and this is something we could work out, because what I'm after is artwork for my characters based on celebrities who really make me think of them, as I want some larger pictures for the wiki.

Please let me know asap. At the moment there's about five, but this may change as I look at pictures, to see who makes me think of who.

With 2014 getting closer by the day I need to start planning for next year and to do that I’d really like to hear from you. Now, I’ll be honest, I have no idea how many readers I have, especially as I have accounts all over the place and I know a lot of readers are lurkers, but I know I have at least a couple. Considering the fact I thought, when I first started this journey, that nothing I wrote was ever going to be good enough for anyone to read having even two people like what I write is wonderful – although I would love to know how many of you there are out there. Send me an email if you don’t want to comment or click a button on one of the posts. They’re entirely anonymous, so I have no idea who it is, but at least it tells me a little of what I need to know: which of my collections are favoured and which stories I should be working on.

The question becomes what do you want me to be doing in 2014? What do you like the most – the raffles, the prompt sessions, the serial? I do want to have the ebooks out soon, but at the moment I can’t seem to get the covers to work on Scrivener, so that’s something I need to play with some more. My plan now – as I don’t have any of them out yet – is for the collection ebooks to have all the fiction written from when I started this journey to the end of 2014. The only things that will be separate are the Advent Stories and the Case of the Counterfeit Enchantments. My introductory ebooks are also high on my list of things to do, but they’re taking a lot of work (not a surprise), so I’m working on timelines, introductions, and stories… and as I have twelve collections now, as the Astral World stories are in with the Fae World collection, I might attempt to publish one a month next year.

Do you want longer fiction? I know I need to be finishing stories, so that another thing on my list, and that’s why I plan on working on the landing pages next month. That way I know where I am and what I need to be doing next. In January and February that’s what I will be working on, as well as attempting to complete all the prompted fiction (some of the stories just aren’t coming to me at the moment, although I do keep going back to them in the hope that I can work on them).

Let me know and I’ll attempt to do whatever I can to fulfill your wishes in the new year.

Does anyone have suggestions for tags I’m not currently using that they think would be helpful?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, because admin work is my least favourite part of having a website and a wiki to work on (although I love doing the same sort of thing for other people), as well as dogs to look after – including a mostly untrained one-year-old labrador – I don’t have a lot of time for at the moment. Hopefully James will be going back to work soon, but right now I’m trying to schedule everything around him and it isn’t easy. There’s so much I want to be doing and I just don’t seem to be able to make everything work.

This means I need some help with both the wiki and the website. At the wiki I think it’s pretty self explanatory – adding pages for characters that I haven’t had a chance to yet, link things together, and that sort of thing. For the website I need the landing pages updated and I want to get the links between stories sorted out, which is something I seem to never have time for. In return for this help I’m offering words – as I’m hoping with this being done by other people I’ll be able to focus better on the actual writing and getting all the work done that needs to be done – 4000 words per hour of work on either. It makes it nice and easy to split them.

As with all my work I like to have input from the people who read it and I’ve been thinking the last few weeks that I’ve been mentioning a lot of things in the Case of the Counterfeit Enchantments that could become stories – so what would you like to see? Would you like to visit the alternate Athares? Meet one of the other Riordans? Let me know and I might even post them as one of the 31 stories I’ll be posting this month.

I’d also like some input into the deities I write about. Often a name can help jog a story, so if you have any deities you’d like me to explore (or the children of the deities), then once again let me know.

Finally I’ve been thinking about the Brotherhood houses. I have the shapeshifter house, which is where Kara lives, and the shadow house, although I haven’t written any stories about that yet, but I don’t have the other five houses, so if you have any suggestions let me know.
